“Le Square Phillips Hotel & Suite was great!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

We stayed for 3 nights at this hotel after our Boston to Montreal cruise on Holland. We arrived at the hotel early after we got off the ship with lots of luggage. They weren't able to give us a room immediately but they stored our luggage for us, gave us receipts and we toured the local area checking back to see when a room would be available. They were able to get us into a room by 1:00. The front desk staff were extremely helpful and we can't say enough for the gentlemen at the conceirge desk. They were so helpful, giving us directions, making restaurant and travel arrangements for us.

We stayed in 605 and the room was very comfortable with a king bed, small eating table, desk, separate kitchen and separate bath. It was really nice to have all the space for our luggage after staying on the cruise ship for 7 days. The bed was very comfortable and we enjoyed the plush bathrooms that were provided.

The only negative I have and must warn anyone staying there, the water in the shower is extremely hot. I suffered burns on my legs. I checked the temperature before I got into the shower but I tried to adjust it after getting in the shower and just turning it a little bit, the water was scalding hot. I didn't realize I was burned until the next day when I looked at my legs and they were bright red where it burned me. The hotel caters to families and children so Please be warned not to let your children adjust the shower or shower alone. They really need to add warning signs in the bathrooms or better yet, adjust the water temperature. They could be subject to a liability claim. The water in the sink was hot enough to make hot tea without warming it in the microwave. In the states we adjust our water temperature to conserve energy. Since I got home, I've been treating the burns with aloe.

There is a nice pool which I was told was heated on the top floor and a patio with a view which we enjoyed. There were several families using the pool. We didn't try the restaurant in the building but we did try several restaurants on the block. The location was wonderful and I'd highly recommend it to anyone except caution in the shower. We were able to walk to the location where we caught the double decker bus tour which we used for 2 days. We were also able to walk to McGill Metro station where we caught the metro to go to the Biodome, Botannical park and planetarium.

The breakfast room on the 2nd floor is very nice as was the extended continental breakfast. The service in the breakfast room was also excellent. It was very clean and we had the best coffee of our trip there. There were pastries, various breads, cereal, waffles, fruit, and yogurt choices. Certainly very adequate.

We used a taxi van to get to the hotel from the ship and also to the airport. We were disappointed that the Van driver to the airport demanded 50.00 even though the hotel told us it would be 40.00 and the sign in the window in the van said 40.00. We should have argued with him but didn't want to end our trip on a sour note. He wasn't real cooperative either about being sure he dropped us off at the right building. Our friends were dropped off at the wrong building. I think he wanted to make sure he got his tip in advance since the hotel had helped us with the luggage we tipped the hotel men for the luggage.

All the other Canadians that we talked to were very courteous. We met one lady who worked at the University at the metro who went way out of her way to help us with directions. We were just amazed what effort she took to help us out. The hotel is very convenient to shopping and restaurants in the area and there was also some local vendors in the square while we were there.

Room Tip: 605 was near the elevator and the housekeepers closet but we didn't experience any noise. The vi...

We'd never been to Montreal before, so booked a studio room at Le Square Phillips based on Trip advisor reviews - arriving from the airport at midnight I was a bit worried about if it would live up to our expectations but I'm pleased to say we were not disappointed.
The staff were welcoming and processed our details quickly, the room was huge, quiet and clean with a charming view over Square Phillips. We were more than happy with the fully equipped kitchen, and the included breakfast every morning was more than adequate.

Positives:
Location - step out the door and you are just seconds from shops, malls, the Underground city, train and plenty of restaarants. We didn't have a car but suspect that parking may have been expensive.
Roof top terrace with heated indoor pool & gym. The views from the terrace alone were amazing, from Mont Royal across to Olympic Park - it was worth going up at night just to admire the cityscape.
The 24/7 airport bus departs from the corner of Place Phillips and Blvd Rene-Levesque, we caught this back to the airport and it was only $8 each (or you can use your train pass).
Breakfast - a good selection and if the breakfast room was busy you could just load up your tray and take it back to your room.
Spacious - we had a studio room, but the sleeping area was divided off from the kitchen by a wall of wardrob storage, so it seemed like the bedroom was separate anyway.

Negatives:
Inconsiderate guests who congregate in the hallways near the elevator late at night talking/shouting. It's not the hotel's fault, but people should be more aware that other guests may have an early flight and need to sleep! Ironically we heard VERY little road noise (despite our room facing Place Phillips) and never heard the guests in the room next door.
The hotel restaurant never seemed to be open - they had a room service menu in the room but it seemed you couldn't actually dine in at the restaurant.
Finding a supermarket so we could stock up on groceries was not easy, we eventually used the internet to find a decent supermarket in the student area of Montreal (Supermarche PA at 1420 du Fort, about a 10 minute walk).

Overall it's a brilliant hotel and we would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the elevators, as that area can be noisy.

Our family of 4 recently stayed at Le Square Phillips Hotel and Suites. We had a great experience overall. First, the price was reasonable for a two bed room suite in the middle of Montreal. There is plenty of room for our family of four. The room decors are dated somewhat but not too unpleasing. We were surprised by extraordinary service we received from everyone we came in contact with. Front desk staff were pleasant, polite, friendly and attentive. When they noticed our children, they even pull out a wagon full of toys and coloring books. Our kids just love it! What a great gesture and smart business sense. The location of the hotel is also a plus. Walking distance from many restaurants and fast food places for a quick bite. Complimentary breakfast was a nice feature also. Over all we had a terrific time at this hotel and would recommended it to friends and certainly come back in the future should our travel plan bring us back to this lovely city. Bon Voyage!

Was in town for McGill graduation, stayed two nights. Stayed in 4th floor suite room, which had one separate bedroom with king bed, a living/bedroom area with another king bed partially separated behind a room divider, and a pullout sofabed in front of the TV in the living room, and a kitchen/dinette. You can sleep six if you have little ones for the sofa bed. There was only one bathroom for all of us, however. Overall, quite a large space. The room and common areas were clean and nice, no complaints. Two separate thermostats. There was no minibar, so bring your own snacks. It is in the heart of downtown, easy to get to sights, taxis, restaurants, etc. The IGA supermarket is about five blocks away. Staff is friendly and helpful. Did not use any of the amenities, so can't comment, but everything seemed pretty well maintained. The free breakfast was simple.

Just returned from 4 nights at Le Square Phillips Hotel. The location was amazing. Near just about everything-Old Montreal and the Old Port, Downtown, museums, theaters, restaurants and shops. Our room was huge-even had a full kitchen. The bathroom was clean and modern with several amenites (shampoo, conditioner, shower cap, sewing kit). Lots of fluffy towels. Good lighting. The breakfast was more than adequate. Several choices of cereal, breads and rolls (even croissants), yogurt, juices and fresh fruit. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. There is free wifi thruout and a business center with 2 computers and printers. There is a pool (tho we didn't use it).

Room Tip: I don't know what the rooms in the front are like, but the view has to be better than ours in th...
