Good choice, well located, nice rooms.
Excellent business/ tourist choice.
Try the great Japanese restaurant accross the road.

It is a great hotel as any Sofitel anywhere I stayed is. Rooms are spacious, beds excellent. In superior room (always worth it) there is an espresso machine. Most notable it is a bargain compared to other hotels of this class. Location is decent. City is not big and you can really walk to other interesting neighborhoods or get a bixi. I was on combination business / pleasure trip and for that Sofitel is perfect. In summer outdoor restaurant is a big plus. The only thing I really didn't like is that in the modernist building windows are sealed and don't open.

Room Tip: Always choose superior room. It should be a small difference.

We stayed here for the weekend and were thrilled with the level of service and attention to detail. The staff were friendly and very capable. The rooms were impeccably clean and beautifully decorated. Clearly there was a lot if thought put into the design of this hotel. It is centrally located, within walking distance of McGill, Mont Royal, Crescent, Peel, restaurants and shopping. Highly recommended.

My husband had to travel to Montreal for business and the company arranged for him to stay at the Sofitel. I decided to tag along for a weekend without the kiddies. The location of the hotel was excellent. It was very easy to locate and the valet parking worked well. We were able to walk everywhere and hardly used our car at all in the 3 days we were there. We walked to restaurants, stores, a comedy club, etc. We chose not to eat the Renoir b/c it seemed quite pricey. We walked to other restaurants in town instead since there are tons within the immediate area. The hotel itself is quite attractive. The lobby is large and well maintained. The candles around in the evening were very nice. The staff were very friendly and check in was very smooth. Our room though was quite small. I know we booked the basic room but I've stayed in many hotels and this was very small for a basic room. We had a room at the end of a hall so maybe ours was uniquely small. There was basically a 2ft radius around the bed of space and that's it. When my husband sat at the desk to do work I couldn't walk by (he's an average size man). I had to climb over the bed to get past. Also, the tv is really off center so it makes for a bit of discomfort when trying to watch from the bed. The bed itself was amazingly comfortable and the bathroom was very nice. There is a bar fridge but you can't use it for anything of your own b/c it's full with drinks and snacks and b/c it's electronically monitored you can't move the stuff in there or you get charged for just moving it. I wanted to put a few of my own drinks and snacks in there, but couldn't. We got by with ice instead but it would've been nice to use the fridge since it was there.

As for noise level, the rooms seemed quite sound proof. We were able to hear some street noise at times as our room was right on Sherbrooke. We were there during the student protests and heard sirens quite a bit at night. I'm sure you'd hear this from most hotels in the area though.

Overall our experience at Sofitel was quite positive. In the future though I'd maybe consider staying somewhere else where there is a pool or rooftop patio and where breakfast is included (ie. Le Square Phillips).

Room Tip: 1411 is quite small.

My wife and I and our two little kids stayed here during Memorial Day weekend. The hotel is ideal for the business traveler. I've stayed here on business as well. The location is central -- close to office buildings and shopping. Old Montreal is a 20 minute walk. The service is excellent. The rooms are small, but comfortable. The bed, from what I've heard and read is the signature of this hotel, and it is truly comfortable. The gym is small. But Mt. Royal is just behind the hotel and is easily accessible for early morning walks or runs. Other services/conveniences are nice, such as valet parking/restaurant, though they are expensive. It's good when on a corporate budget or a short vacation. The free "lite" internet is also convenient. We checked in the early afternoon. The hotel didn't even bring up the early check-in.

For families on vacation, the hotel is very good, although we ended up spending all our three days in Old Montreal. Staying there may have been a bit more convenient, but we actually found the walks/short drives back and forth after the delicious food in Montreal helpful. Some hotels were offering free breakfast with the stay. While this one wasn't, breakfast places were a short 5 minute walk away.

Overall, we had a wonderful stay.

My husband and I took a kid free trip to Montreal and loved this hotel. We only had a short time in Montreal but felt this location was great. We walked through Mt. Royal in the morning and walked down to Old Montreal in the afternoon enjoying everything along the way. As for the hotel, our room was quiet and comfortable. Every member of the hotel staff was extremely friendly and accomodating. They said we were upgraded though, and while it was lovely it didn't seem like an upgraded room. Breakfast at the hotel restaurant was excellent and a ver nice setting with very friendly service. We asked for a late checkout at check in and it was accommodated. I have no complaints and only compliments. Would definitely recommend Sofitel Montreal.
