“Small, Dirty, Rude!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

Where do I start!!!

We arrived to the Hotel at 9pm only to find out we had a room the size of a matchbox, Then after being there 5 mins and using the washroom the toilet then got blocked.

After speaking to the front desk he sent in the Manager who is also the maintenance man! Very rude and he made my girlfriend feel very uncomfortable. He then began to splash water all over the washroom with his plunger. After he unblocked it he grunted and exited the room without testing the toilet properly.

As soon as he left I checked the washroom and found it not to be fixed.

I again went to the front desk to complain.

We stayed here for ONE night before checking out with a refund and into a best western..

Waist of time staying here!!

Also the walls are paper thin and the Hotel is very loud.

STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This hotel is at the intersection of a major road, but the rooms are quiet. No stairs, so you have to lug your luggage up narrow stairs. The rooms are small, but all the neccesities are present. The room feels a little dusty, but no funny smells or anything. Towels are changed every day, and basic toiletries are provided

I stayed for 2 nights. On the 1st night, the air-cond kept resetting itself to 86F, which made it a warm night for us. We told the guy at the reception the next morning, and the problem was rectified on the 2nd night.

Complimentary breakfast consisted of a large muffin, croissant, orange juice and coffee/tea. The small breakfast room only had 3 tables, so we opted to bring the food back to the room.
On the 2nd day, we had to leave early and was going to skip breakfast, when the friendly reception guy showed up at 7.00am, and quickly offered to give us orange juice and croissants to go.
The hotel is a short walk to Old Montreal and also a 10min walk to the Champ de Mars Metro station.

Hotel within some steps of Vieux-Montreal! This hotel offers a great support for the guests. The room was cleaned daily. The St. Hubert street is preety beautiful and calm, despite it is near to the hectic St. Denis. It was our first trip to Montreal and we had many pleasent experiences. I definitly recommen Hotel Viger...it is a great deal!!

Stayed here for one night and the price was extremely affordable. Great location with only a short walk to metro station and old Montreal. Staff at front desk was very friendly and breakfast though simple (tea/coffee/OJ/muffin or croissant) hit the spot.

For the price that we paid, it was a very decent hotel. The rooms are old but relatively clean, and the location is excellent. Some may not like the fact that there are some homeless people around, but you get that in every big city regardless of where you are. We felt comfortable and safe, and again it was a great value hotel. It also had WFi.

The location is great. Hotel Viger is a 10-15 minute walk from Old Montreal.

BUT we found it very dirty. We did a two-week trip through Chicago and the Maritimes, staying in cheap hotels, and this one was the worst. Our "non-smoking" room smelled strongly of smoke. After trying in vain all afternoon to air it out, we told them and they moved us to a new room. But there we found loose hairs on our sheets, a cigarette butt on the bed, and what appeared to be boogers (yes, boogers) on the floor. Fortunately, the other double bed appeared a little cleaner, so we toughed it out.

The neighborhood is a tad sketchy (if that's a deterrent), but we just took all our valuables inside. We did see a guy peeing on a building, barely three minutes after we walked out the front door, and we saw a couple of broken car windows nearby.

My recommendation: I'd look elsewhere. This hotel was just too dirty. Stay farther away from the cool neighborhoods and buy an all-day transit pass. Montreal has a great subway system, anyway, so you won't really lose time or money.

Dear bdriedger,

You are right when you say that hotel is at a good location. We are steps away from Montreal Convention Center, City Hall, Superior Court, Old Montreal, Latin Quarter, and we are facing the National Archives of Quebec. The residents of this area pay starting from half-a-million dollars only per condo-apartment. This also means that the area is not immune from problems common for all down towns of all the major cities.

The hotel is inspected and licensed by Tourism Quebec. All linens are changed after each and every check out. Our bed sheets and pillow cases are cleaned by a professional laundry service. Regrettably, even professional laundry equipment is not without the fault, and some discoloration or defects may remain on the bedding. One thing you can be certain off is that all the linens and pillow cases on our beds are clean, fresh from the laundry service. Towels are changed every day. All the towels are washed with bleach and detergent, and afterwards they are dried at the maximum temperature in the dryer to ensure the high sanitary standard. After every check our, every room is cleaned. Particular attention is given to the bathroom, where every surface is cleaned with the disinfecting sanitizing solution. We do our best to ensure that our customers have a pleasant stay. However, we live in the ever-changing world. Problems may arise, but, as soon as we are informed, we fix them as soon as possible.

We were shocked to read your comment. Rest assured that if you have had notified us about any issues during your stay, we would have done our absolute best to ensure that your stay is pleasant and comfortable. We do care, we do listen.

Our hotel is completely non smoking. Sticker-signs placed on each door notify our customers that no smoking is allowed indoors. When you doubted about the smell of smoke in your room, upon your check in, you were immediately offered to move into another room. Even though you have only paid for the room with 1 double bed, you were given a room with 2 double beds (with new carpet, which was just installed), without any extra charges. Before you moved into the new room, you saw the room and chose to move there and stay there…

Sincerely,
Manager

We stayed four nights in June 2012 and have only positive things to say about Hotel Viger. The staff were friendly and polite. The other thing we appreciated about this hotel was its great location. The hotel is located in a walking distance to metro station and is also easily reachable by public transport when coming from the airport. We will definitely stay at this hotel again.
