“Last minute booking exceeded our expectations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2012

We got into Montreal late and needed a place to stay for the night before we moved on to Quebec city. Located in downtown very close to restaurants and shops. Room was clean. Friendly front desk staff.

Hotel St. Denis is located within a 20 minute walking distance of old Montreal and down town Montreal at the intersection of St. Denis and St. Catherine streets within the Latin quarter with a metro stop a short distance away. The hotel lobby, hallways and my hotel room were clean, well maintained with modern reno's while still maintaining the feel of the original building. The hotel has front desk staff at your service 24 hours a day who were helpful at all times with any questions, cab pick up calls, morning wake up calls and making sure we were well taken care of - pleasant at all times. My room was large and the bed on the softer side with great pillows. I took the advice of others who have stayed at the hotel and asked for a room at the back of the hotel due to the front rooms facing a busy street-my request was accommodated and my room was quiet at all times which mean't I was getting a good nights sleep each night. I highly recommend this hotel - I had a fantastic stay, loved being so close to so many summer activities and many restaurants with outdoor patios within a short walking distance. I will stay here again every time I am in Montreal.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel away from busy St. Denis street.

With just one night in Montreal, we wanted to be close to the Theatre St Denis for an event and the description and location appeared to be just right. What you see is what you get!
From the outside you wouldn't choose this hotel for its looks, old, and without any real 'welcome'. Inside it was an almost strange 'deja vu' feeling reminiscent of the 'Shining'. Yet once in our room the St Denis came into its own; a large, comfortable bed, plenty of hanging and drawer-space, coffee and tea facilities, free wifi, and spotlessly clean - but an ageing hotel that could do with a facelift.
It offers overnight parking in a secure (public) underground park - good because the surroundings were less than salubrious, with down and outs wandering the streets. perhaps we didn't see Montreal at its best, it was grey and downcast and had little 'sparkle' added to which the roadworks on the way out to the airport were confusing at best and an assault course at worst.

Room Tip: You pay your money you take your choice but lower numbers are on the from and closer to the elevator...

This hotel has a great location, close enough to both the Old Montréal and to the Latin Quarter nightlife. The shuttle from the airport drops you just a block off, and the metro stations are easy to reach. The room was very clean (I appreciate it when rooms have hardwood floors and not carpet). The staff was always very friendly.

If anything it'd be nice if they provided breakfast, but there's plenty of places to go in the area.

Two totally different establishments with similar names, in the same street and in the same area! People have been mistaken writing reviews unknowingly. Just a warning.

Anyone familiar with Montreal will really appreciate the value of this hotel. This is a smaller hotel with wonderful character - hardwood floors and ceiling moldings. Even the hallways have new hardwood floors. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The staff was helpful and friendly. Transportation, restaurants and many attractions are close by. You may be able to find another hotel for the same price range as this one but it won't have the quality of this hotel. The parking is in a nearby garage - yes, covered garage where you park your own car in a normal size parking space.
Planning a trip to Montreal? Check this place out - but be forewarned it books up fast.

The facilities at the hotel are adequate - comfortable bed, ample hot water, air conditioner in the room, free WI-fi and for those of us without a lap top there is unlimited internet access on a desk top PC in the basement. (The basement is furnished as a meeting space with a fire in one corner.) There is no hotel restaurant but with all the eateries on Rue St Denis this is an advantage - we enjoyed finding different places to eat each day.
Hotel St Denis is very close to the main bus station in Rue Berri (4 easy blocks). The Metro is even closer. Rue St Denis is one of the main streets in Montreal and we used it to walk nearly everywhere ( Vieux Montreal is about 15 minutes walk, Chinatown the same, Rue St Catherine, the main shopping street, is a block away, and Mont Royal is an easy 3 km walk)
We would stay there again if we returned to Montreal.
