I stayed at this hotel for a business event over a period of three days. It was terrific. The hotel staff was polite and accomodating. I kept them busy with faxes, scans and emails. The food was great in the dining room and the rooms were very clean with every detail looked after. Room Service was really great. It was a boutique hotel that provided 5 star service. At minimum on the same level as a four seasons hotel or St. Regis. But more intimate as it was smaller. I would never stay at a large chain hotel in Montreal again. Outstanding. M. Phillips, Houston Texas

Room Tip: You can ask for a suite which provides more room. The front desk is very accomodating to any need.

This was our first visit to Montreal so booked the St-James for a five night stay on the recommendation of a friend.

The hotel lobby has that lovely warm feeling of an old school European "grand hotel". The front desk were very charming on our arrival and we were swiftly shown to our junior suite - even though quite late in the evening. It was a delightful junior suite but like many (we were told) of the hotel's rooms lacks any kind of view so it was a little gloomy during the day.

Location was good as close to the old town and easy to walk into the port area, etc. I would have to say that it is very quiet at the weekend as it is in the financial/business district of Montreal.

We had positive interaction with all the staff at the hotel - housekeeping were unobtrusive and efficient; concierge team extremely charming and helpful! Front Desk also very good. The restaurant and bar share the same lofty space and serve great cocktails and a very good breakfast.

The only negative experience resulted from a mains water failure that had affected the whole area and meant that we had no clean bathroom water for over 24 hours - the water that came from the shower contained grit and the cold water pressure was pathetic during this period. I know that the problem was not the hotel's fault but at no point were offered an explanation or an apology or any form of compensation for the inconvenience. The front desk staff were apologetic when we mentioned the problem (several times) but at no point were we contacted by a manager to explain what was going on. Complimentary bottled water was brought to our room - welcome. The visit from a plumber after 11pm was not welcome.

A good hotel but we felt a little let down over how the water issue was dealt with.

Room Tip: Do request a room with a view if available as most have none at all.

Lovely hotel at edge of Vieux Montreal. We had a beautifully furnished large room. Lovely linens, and completely quiet. Excellent concierge and other service. Only downside is that our rate didn't include breakfast, which was very expensive in otherwise lovely dining room, and there were not great other options close to the hotel, especially over the weekend when coffee place near hotel was closed. But highly recommended.

Just got through spending a week in Montreal at the St.-James. A delightful botique hotel very near the convention center and many other landmarks. It's within walking distance of many excellent restaurants as well and the old Montreal area and St-Catherine's street which is the primer shopping area of Montreal. Also the various art districts. The staff at the St-James are true professionals and very helpful. The rooms are large and well furnished. The make-up service was very prompt. It is expensive but you do get your money's worth.

Room Tip: I am not sure there is a poor room. All seem to be quiet. We were on the 9th floor.

Wow this is a lovely hotel in old town Montreal. Beautifully appointed rooms with lush plush bed linens and a beautiful bath room. The Resturant and bar are in a gorgeous room as well. Our room included breakfast and it was presented French flair.

Room Tip: We had a junior suite which was lovely
