“"Wonderful hotel in a old world wonderful setting"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2014

My husband and I have just returned from a wonderful and relaxing weekend in Old Montreal. We had the pleasure of staying for the first time at the St. Sulpice. The front desk staff were very friendly, pleasant and accomodating all the while maintaining their professionalism. We stayed for 2 nights and were pleasantly surprised by our rather spacious room which had a balcony and a fire place. We were quite lucky enough to get a room at the end of the hallway which was very private and therefore no immediate neighbours or shared walls. The staff were very attentive and room service was quite fast. Among the other amenities of the room was a modernized self contained kitchenette euipped with a nespressor machine. They did pay attention to the tiniest detail. One of the reasons we chose old Montreal was for the old world charm, the narrow cobble stoned streets, and its surrounding gorgeous architecture not to mention the mouth watering cuisine at the many restauants and the horse and carriages passing by. The St. Sulpice does a wonderful job of marrying modern decor with the old world charm. The concierge at the front desk was very knowledgeable of the hotel amenities and the area, and was able to advise us about onsite restaurant and room service options as well as neighbouring restaurants incase we wanted to venture out. Like I said, fabulous, relaxing and fun filled weekend. We can't wait to return and will definitely stay at the St.Sulpice again. I would recommend the same to anyone looking for a getaway or a vacation in Old Montreal.

We stayed here for two nights during 2013 (American) Thanksgiving Holiday in its one-bedroom suite. The room was nice (not huge, but reasonably sized for the location), the staff was friendly, both the front desk and the cleaning crew, and the front desk staff was very knowledgeable about the area. We had a first floor unit that looked out to the courtyard, which was nice. The location was great, we had a car (valet parking was expensive, but normal for the area), but walked to most places, everything was close by. On the day of our check-out, it was real early and the front desk person had to double as the valet. Not only he ran out to get our car so we can get to the airport on time, he even drove the car to look for me while I was getting the breakfast for the family. Great service and very thoughtful. Highly recommended for family trips and definitely will stay here again if I visit Montreal in the future.

Room Tip: One bedroom units are nice for a small family or a couple.

We spent 2 nights in a large beautiful room with a fireplace on the 5th floor, with a gorgeous view. I especially loved the modern decor with the extraordinarily modern furnishings - the couch, the queen bed, flat screen TVs, 2 burner stove, expresso machine - you know, the extra little things that make a stay special. I appreciated the cleanliness, the service was extremely fast in the room. The only issue we had was the restaurant below the hotel had limited choices on the menu & the lady had us wait a good 5 minutes or more & never actually ended up acknowledging us even though she was literally 10 feet away from us - not sure if she was ignoring us because she was busy. I feel it's unfair to decrease the service score for this but, perhaps staffing in the restaurant is a problem to address. It's okay because the hotel is situated smack dab in the middle of old Montreal, where there is a plethora of restaurants, bistros, cafés, at any time of day. There is no gym but there is a spa & gym around the corner (need to go outside). I am a huge fitness person but I ended up not trying their gym. The hotel location is near Chinatown & we walked there and back easily. Lovely place to entertain visitors & absolutely a wonderful place spending a romantic & classy evening by the fire. Overall, an outstanding hotel & I was extremely pleased with this choice.

The hotel is very comfortable. The rooms are well appointed. The staff are friendly, outgoing and very helpful. A very enjoyable experience. Now if you could control the weather you'd be perfect, a little warmth in January would be welcome. Still, a beautiful area to stroll through.

We spend a week at Le Saint-Sulpice and were able to evaluate quite a few things here. We booked a deluxe suite with balcony, which was a very spacious one bedrooms apartment with a small kitchen, fireplace, living room and ensuite bathroom with whirlpool. For the most part, the room was impeccable. Enviro logs for the fireplace were replaced daily, and the kitchen was definitely usable. The bed was comfortable and the water pressure was just perfect. One day, it appeared that someone had shifted some of my cosmetics around, but no harm done there. We had some pots and pans missing from our room upon check-in, which was resolved quickly. The kitchen is certainly a bit cramped with cabinets in slightly precarious areas that can bang into ones head (as always I suppose). The balcony had a view onto the back of the hotel, which was ok, but it seemed that a large part of the hotel was a new addition, so it felt very much like you were in a typical new condo. In the future i would happily forgo the balcony.

The service was cordial, hellos and goodbyes every day and a friendly valet. We never used the concierge, but have no reason to doubt their competency. One big disappointment was the breakfast. It was really slow, greasy, and there was nobody else present. The service was awkward, as we were not greeted and presented with menus until 10 minutes after arrival. I saw that there was a continental buffet but it looked pretty unappetizing. Just some cut fruit that had been sitting there who knows how long and packaged 0% fat yogurt (blech) and packaged mini-boxes of cereal. Had to ask for water refill several times as there was no one really working in the dining room, which was in the basement.

A lot of TA members commented on the nice smell inside the lobby area but I found it smelled like cheap, very strong artificial apple/pear glade plugin type smell.

Overall, we would return to Le Saint-Sulpice without hesitation.

I recently stayed at hotel St-Sulpice for 1 night in their deluxe suite with my girlfriend for he birthday and it was great. The rooms are generously sized, and allow you to easily entertain guests. The kitchenette in the room is what helped me decide this hotel over some of the other boutique hotels in the old port. St Sulpice is one of the only nicer hotels in the area that has a kitchenette. It is fully stocked with all that you would need and the nespresso machine is great touch.

The only slight negative that I have is that the bathrooms are a little out of date, especially as compared to the other hotels in the area. They seem a little dark and dont appear to be as clean as the rest of the room. With this being said, this did not in any way affect our stay.

Overall, great hotel!

Stayed at Le Saint-Suplice over New Year's. While the weather outside was very cold, we enjoyed our stay at this property immensely.

Service: everyone was helpful and polite, from the door staff to the concierge, the bartender, housekeeping, and front desk. They offered great recommendations for restaurants. The concierge was able to procure excellent seats at a nearby restaurant for dinner, music, drinks, and fireworks on New Year's Eve. Bravo.

Location: Perfect. This was our doorstep to Old Montreal. Walk to everything, or short cab ride if it's too cold. Right behind the Notre Dame Basilica, which is great to tour. It's a fair distance from the airport - around $40 cab ride.

Gym facilities: Maybe the only downside - there is no gym on property. But there is a solution. There are free passes to two nearby facilities which probably have more equipment and space than most hotel gyms. If it's cold outside and you only have gym shorts and no sweat pants, it is a pain to walk outside, especially on the weekends where the only option is the one that is farther away - probably 5 blocks.

Restaurant/Bar: Did not eat in the hotel restaurant but did order room service, which was delivered very quickly and was high quality. The bar in the lobby was cozy but fully adequate and offers a fireplace to sip drinks by. We thought the drinks were expensive so we went to the corner store and alcohol was expensive there too, so maybe the costs were average for the area. The bartender was friendly and gave us excellent night life recommendations.

Rooms: Spacious and comfortable, just what we wanted for a week's vacation. Full kitchenette with cooking utensils, Nespresso machine, fresh bottled water delivered every evening with turndown service. We enjoyed being able to keep cold drinks handy. Even a little dining table if we needed it. We stayed in a room overlooking the courtyard, which was quiet. There was a lot of snow on the balcony so we did not venture out. Be warned: the rooms offer "fireplaces" but our fireplace was one of the electric ones that is really just a picture of a flame. There are rooms with actual fireplaces - ask for them by name if you want this amenity. Bathroom has a walk in shower. The bedroom could be completely closed off to remain quiet if one wants to sleep in while another gets up early. The room was perfectly quiet for sleeping nearly all the time.

Other: On one of the "warmer" days (maybe 28 degrees F) we decided to take a walking tour. We found it is possible to see Chinatown, McGill University campus, and trek to the top of Mount Royal in a day, easily. One suggestion, though - in the winter do not attempt this without your warm gear and wintery hiking boots, as this is no time to destroy your nice shoes. You need something that can handle the salt, keep you warm, and repel water.

All in all we had an excellent stay. We want to go back in the fall when the leaves are changing and the weather is warmer. Would like to explore the waterfront. We received a discount on our rate for prepaying in full without the possibility of a refund. We would highly recommend the St. Sulpice.

Room Tip: For quiet, choose a courtyard facing room (even so, garbage trucks may wake you up some mornings).
