“Great location and very large rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

We stayed here in November 2012 and got the one bed suite which also has a sofa bed in the living area. We were two adults, a 3 year old and a 1 year old.
I booked over the phone which was very efficient and smooth. No special offers or discounts but the room rate was reasonable for the size of room and hotel.
We arrived before check in time but they told us that our room was ready and we went up (which is great when traveling with kids!). The hotel lobby is very nice and smells so good, I think they have special candles.

Room:
Really great size, a winner for families. Even with the sofa bed 'made up' and a pack and play in the room there was ample room for the kids to run around.
Kitchenette is fairly well stocked - microwave, fridge, toaster etc. Also the nespresso coffee machine that everyone else mentions. You get 3 nespresso capsules a day btw or they charge you for more.
Bathroom was large and had a huge bath and separate shower which was nice. Double sink.
The only *small* negative with the room is that the actual bedroom is an internal room which is why the have partial glass doors so that some natural light comes through. However, our point for having a one bed suite was so that we could put the kids to bed and then stay up in our room with lights on/tv etc but the light obviously travels through the glass door. Minor point. Our kids slept so it wasn't really a huge issue.
Our room was at the back of the hotel and far from the elevators, was practically silent. Maybe it is different in summer time but I didn't think the location was noisy overall and the street side was even quiet in my opinion.

Location:
Great location for the old town and tourist type things. We also were able to walk to the downtown area within 10 minutes. If we wanted to go further the hotel would call a cab, e.g. we visited the biodome (well worth it with children) which was about 15 mins cab ride and $20.

Hotel Service:
Very good, not special, but good. Concierge was well informed and helpful. We needed to visit a Dr's while staying and he directed us to several clinics within walking distance.
The chamber maid service/room cleaning was actually very good to the point that I commented on it - they really cleaned the room properly every day and also provided 'turn down' with bottled water which is a nice touch.
Free wifi which I was happy about.

Other:
My husband and daughter used the swimming pool at the Intercontinental (I think!) which has a deal with the St Sulpice. You have to pay to use the facilities though so not really worth it unless you are going to spend a couple of hours there. Apparently the pool was ok, not huge and quite cold. Also a good 10-15 minutes walk so not exactly convenient.

There are loads of places to eat in the local area around the hotel and we found plenty of places that would do carry out. Very few places seem to deliver in Montreal.

I would recommend the hotel again based on the good old town location, on a very pretty street and the comfortable and clean, very large rooms. Good hotel and worth the price.

“Excellent....once again!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

Once again we returned to our Montreal ‘Home’, Saint-Sulpice. It’s still a gem and still a comfort. In our last review we mentioned our Golden Retriever and rated the hotel ‘2 paws up’. This year we added a Golden Doodle puppy to our family. We have to change the rating to ‘4 paws up’.
We arrived just following a snow storm and found Vieux-Port de Montréal all the more charming.
Once again we had occasion to ask for assistance from the concierge. Maxime was very helpful, knowledgeable and a great asset. Not sure when, but we will be returning to Saint-Sulpice.

“Great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

It can be loud if you have a street facing room, even on the 5th floor. We would definitely stay here again but next time get a courtyard room.
Service is excellent. A very attentive concierge.
Rooms are large, clean, and very nice.

Room Tip: It can be loud if you have a street facing room, even on the 5th floor. We would definitely stay he...

“The gem of Montreal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

We love Montreal and part of that admiration is due to the Hotel Saint-Sulpice being our hotel of choice. Some 'old school' formality and graciousness with no hauteur or rudeness. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed, room service is very well done, the staff is genuinely eager to be helpful. We have been guests a half dozen times and hope to have many more enjoyable stays in our favorite Montreal hotel. (By the way, there are few sights as joyful as white-light angels on blue-light background on the face of the basilica at the top of St.-Urbain on the approach to the hotel during holiday season. Magnifique!)
The price is fully justified by the service provided. Enjoy!

“Nice rooms and location but issues”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

We stayed there for the first time over Christmas 2012 for 2 days. The hotel is nice, well located near bustling St-Paul street and all the restaurants. Rooms are spacious and well appointed. Ours was a suite with an enclosed bedroom and a kitchenette.

I would not return and I would probably go to the Nelligan because of three issues:

This hotel is a pet-friendly hotel. We did not know this when we booked. Has a person with pet dander allergies, I found myself sneezing for the entire stay. They charge 50$ more for cleaning if you bring a pet, but I'm sure they can't clean it all completely.

When you come in the lobby, there is a strong scent wich can be very offensive. My guess is that this is used to cover pet smells.

At checkout, the front desk refused to apply the rebate advertized on their web site (book two nights get the second half price) because I had booked so long in advance. If I had cancelled and rebooked two days prior, I would have got the rebate... Pretty stupid...

In short, nice hotel, well located with nice spacious rooms but with some issues, the biggest one, for someone with pet allergies, is that this hotel is pet friendly.

Next time, we are going back to the Nelligan.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. Although we are pet friendly, we make a point to limit pets to the same floor and we sanitize the rooms after check-out thus the pet-charge. The scent in our lobby may not please everyone and is in no way used to mask any pet ecents and due to the overwhelming demand from our guests to purchase the scent, we bottled it and have it available for purchase at the front desk. We apologize that these issues did not make your stay 100% satisfactory. We hope you will reconsided staying with us in the future.

Sincerely,
Vittorio Di Re
