“Bring your own wine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

First experience of a restaurant where you bring your own wine. We both ordered steak, you are also given a "free" salad in between the starter and the main course. Steak was ok, my partner ordered a finer cut of beef, but not sure if it was worth it.

No problem eating here again.

“Jusk OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

We dined at Steak Frites because it was right around the corner from our hotel, and also because we wanted steak frites! while in Montreal. This is a chain restaurant, and we ate at the location on St-Antoine.

Sadly, were were not very impressed. Of course, the steak is the main part of the meal here, and it really lacked any flavor at all. The frites, however, were very good. Hot and crisp, with just the right amount of salt. The meals come with a simple butter leaf salad with a creamy garlic dressing. The bread served with the meal was also very good. We started with the fried calamari appetizer, and it was also good, although it is a small portion. However, since the meals come with a salad, it is still a sufficient amount to share. We did not sample a dessert.

Service was acceptable, but not very friendly. I guess I would call it perfunctory. They have a BYOB policy.

I would like to have rated this restaurant higher, but the steak was really a disappointment.

“Unique bring your own bottle restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

The quality of Canadian beef is something that must be tried and this is a great location for those who would rather bring a bottle of something other than wine for their dinner. Wine enthusiasts who purchase wines they want to pair with beef can also have exactly what they want. They do have good coffee, tea, and water . . . these is a concept that would work in few places in the U.S. but I've sampled three in Montreal and the food was elevated in a casual atmosphere.

“Steak Frites more than a Chain”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

Everywhere you eat in Montreal is wonderful - no matter if fancy or plain. Steak Frites in the old city is upscale in an old building and right in the middle of things. We had terrific almost gourmet food and reasonably priced wine with terrific service. A pleasant lunch that is memorable - nothing to criticize in this great bistro. They are around the city if you miss the one in the old part of town.

“Best steak and chips in Downtown Montreal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

This restaurant is right on St Catherine Street and near to Baudry Metro Station. It is a very busy place and a reservation is needed if you require a specific day and time. There is a large outdoor terrace at the front of the restaurant and I agree with another commentator who says it can be noisy but what else can you expect if you choose a popular restaurant slap bang in the middle of the busiest party street in the center of the city??
Prices are reasonable and the steaks are good and there is an 'endless' supply of tasty home fries throughout your meal. Drinks were a little pricey. The staff were friendly and very attentive. I would definitely recommend this place for a casual dinner when in downtown Montreal.
