I recently went to the Kitchenette with someone for lunch after hearing great things about the Texas-fusion dishes in a Montreal Foodie book. When we arrived, the first thing which hit me was an overpowering smell that almost equated to basement mold and dirty socks sitting in a pool of water. Hoping the scent would fade, we took a seat next to the wall with a window. Both of us went for the Table d'Hôte which included either the appetizer of the day or a green salad + coffee for $5. The salads we ordered were iceberg lettuce with dill and parsley. The iceberg was dry and discolored as was the parsley.
Then came the main dishes: the Chipotle-miso black Cod and the Kitchenette burger. The cod was nicely sweated but the bok choy was over-steamed and the celery root bland and unsalted. The burger was much worse-overcooked with stale 'frites' and served inside a cheap, unflavorful white bun. Both meals were overpriced for the size.
Our waitress, French lady Sophie, was rude, unaccommodating and forgetful. She didn't bring us any bread for our meal, forgot to bring a glass of ice until we reminded her a second time and didn't pass to see how we were enjoying our meals.
After we finished our meal, we said goodbye to the chefs and to the waitress and none of them acknowledged us at ALL. So very rude.
Needless to say, we are NEVER going back there and will not recommend the restaurant to anyone.
