I booked a superior quality room ($109 Canadian) in June for our trip last week. The location of the hotel is pretty good (very close to the happening Latin Quarter, 3 blocks from the Metro), but the first room we were given reminded me of a Travelodge room--clean, but you wouldn't want to hang out there at all, just shower and sleep. The room was also quite musty with a good dose of cleaning solution smell on top. It definitely did NOT look like any of the rooms pictured on the website.
The next day I was able to switch rooms (the hotel was completely booked the first night). I upgraded to a deluxe room ($129 Canadian), which was much nicer. The bathroom had been completely renovated, as opposed to the first room's very old and worn bathroom, and the room itself was worth spending some free time in. It was unbelievable what $20 difference makes at this hotel. It's worth the money. But make sure to ask for a renovated room when you make your reservation.
Breakfast was served in "the dungeon" where you didn't want to dawdle because it was underground and had one window. What was served was pretty lame. All they offered was the standard breakfast drinks (coffee, tea, orange juice--and hot chocolate), croissants, toast and bagels. Nothing more. The orange juice was provided in what I call a large shooter glass, so you had to keep requesting refills. The food was not very tasty at all. Management would be well advised to upgrade the quality and quantity. Self-serve would be good so that people can help themselves to the food and amounts they want.
