“Stylish, large rooms, central,perfect!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012

We stayed there for only 2 nights, in the 706 suite on the first floor in rue Argyle, next door to the building where breakfast is served. The suite was very spacious; it was composed by 2 rooms, one with a double bed and closet, and the other - a living room - with an extra bed, table, chairs, a fireplace, a very largebathroom with a Jacuzzi bathtub a separate space with WC and another space with the shower. The suite was very well decorated with a special taste, with brick walls and ethnic paintings; the rooms are well refurnished, clean, comfortable and quiet although Les Bons Matins is only few steps from rue St.Catherine, the main central street of Montreal. On our floor there was also a small balcony with table and chairs enfacing a large court full of trees. The access to this space is from the kitchen space which is external to our room. The staff was helpful and breakfast was abundant with a large choice of eggs, French toast, fruit, bread, butter, jam, etc... freshly prepared by 2 nice ladies.
On rue Crescent and rue Bishop - 2 of the nearest street - there are a lot of pubs, restaurants, breweries etc.. where to have dinner.

Make sure you stand at their reception entrance and not the town house they rent out, like we did, wondering if/when anybody will answer the door ;-)
Metro station a few meters from the front door. And the airport bus up the road. Both incredibly handy.
We got upgraded to a different room (we were supposed to have the one right under the reception area) which was nice.
Generous room size and unique decor.
Yummie breakfast!
Look no furher!!

Lovely quirky B&B, really loved the rooms – each with a different style. The exposed brick walls in some of the rooms were a great feature. The bathroom in our room was so small but it didn’t bother us as it fitted in with the room and was just useable.

Front desk were helpful and parking was brilliant (we didn’t have any worries with getting a space).

Breakfasts were lovely and the ladies who served breakfast were so friendly.

The only problem we encountered was on our second night when the water stopped working from the afternoon onwards. The repair men did everything they could to fix but they couldn’t so the whole of our side of the building was left without water overnight. We were leaving at 8am the next morning so decided to stay, the hotel did give us a couple of options (hotel was fully booked but we could stay in the apartments they owned across town, full refund or reduced the rate on that nights stay by 50% if we decided to stay). They were as fair as could be in an unexpected event and in the end it wasn’t too bad as we used the toilet near reception and checked out early the next morning.

Despite the above would stay again if was ever in the area. Good location for metro and the main street for eateries and shopping.

I had a "girlfriends" trip, so we stayed for 3 days in the suite with a bed and canopy and a foldout couch in a separate room, along with a jacuzzi bathroom and a minikitchen (microwave, fridge, and sink). I have been recommending to all!

The Auberge has been created from a renovated set of rowhouses, with the charm of early high ceilings, a lot of exposed brick and wrought iron. Clearly this renovation was done by someone who knew how to synthesize their own aesthetic adding unique artwork and a color palette for each wall to the existing architectural features.

The staff was very nice and accommodating, and the breakfast was awesome.. (Don't pass on the french toast with mango sauce) That is just the appetizer, noted by others, there are a number of main courses to choose from.

The price was more than reasonable and you are right in downtoan.
I was a bit worried when I arrived that we would hear the train or highway, but neither of us did. The metro is not even 1 block away, and there are probably 100 restaurants and bars within 1/2 mile walk.. Note that we were able to get a 3 day metro pass for $16 which allowed us to take any bus or train for our stay. Those are at the metro station.

We only ran into 2 issues, which we quickly learned to plan around
- This is an old house, and if you take a shower at the most popular time (7:30-8:30ish) you may run out of hot water.
- The keys are a bit idiosyncratic. If you plan to have a big night out your first night, I'd recommend you practice beforehand!

I highly recommend for couples, families with children >12, and trip of adult friends.

I would not recommend to older people with disabilities, difficulty climbing stairs or walking uphill, since the first few blocks from the Auberge are uphill.

This is our fourth time back at Petite Auberge. We have always loved this place. We are noticing subtle changes though because of budget cuts and also lack of service. First we love the rooms - the tubs and decorations are great. We love the location - can't beat the metro right next door. We feel very safe when returning late at night. What we find lacking now are the decrease in amenities but the rooms are still the same prices. No cold water to come back to - now you have to buy it. No cookies. That was always fun to have. But the breakfast has gone way down hill as well. I sent my eggs back three times (wanted over easy- which is on the menu) and finally I just gave up and left them on the plate- not eating at all. The servers are great but you see this and don't say anything. Especially to return customers that are friendly and humble. It also used to be a bustling breakfast room filled with large selections of fruit, coffee any way you'd like it, muffins, and yogurt. No more- they had to sell the breakfast room and make us all sit in the reception room. I really don't want to nitpick but if you are taking all that away, lower the price of the room. Don't you want your loyal customers to return? I am not trying to say it's all about the food but once you are used to something and you are paying for it and returning for it and it's not offered- it gets disappointing. We want to return- it is our home in Montreal, but after this experience we might look for something more warm, welcoming and cozy. After all, that is what a b and b experience should offer.

This small auberge has the accent on HOSPITALITY! A series of old houses (close but not too close to the metro station) run by very helpful friendly folk, boasts lovely quaint rooms, all different, and is a wonderful place to stay. Charm oozes out of every corner, and do not leave without taking breakfast- it's a feast of high quality food. Unmissable.

This was the third time me and my girlfriend stayed at the Petite Auberge Les Bons Matins, and as always we had a great stay.

The breakfast that's included in the price is absolutely delicious - around 6 different omelettes to chose from, or eggs, with a good selection of fresh fruit and a glass of juice. There's cereal provided as well but we didn't go for that. The service that comes with it is smiley and fast, and far surpasses service I've had in other restaurants where you have to actually pay for the breakfast!

The location is perfect, literally a 30 second walk from Lucien l'Allier metro stop, and you can walk to Rue Sainte-Catherine in 5 minutes or so, so there's a great selection of shops and restaurants very close by. They also let you leave your bags in reception if you arrive before you're room's available, and also after you check out so you don't have to drag them round town. This was a BIG plus for us.

The room was comfortable and air-conditioned, which was good as it was around 37 degrees outside with the humidity. The bed was very comfortable, everything was very clean and tidy, and the spa bath was great after a day walking about the city.

Now for the negatives. Generally the service at the reception was very good, however just after checking in, I went up to ask for an extra towel. The man on reception seemed happy enough to go and get one, but let out a very audible hufff as he went on his way to get it. Also, the previous times we have stayed in this B&B there was a fridge near the reception full of free cans of soda for guests. Was disappointed to see they had got rid of this, and replaced it with a fridge full of bottled water for $1 a go. It's not a big loss, but it was fun and it set this B&B aside from the big hotels with their vending machines of over-priced bottles.

When reserving a room, beware of room 504. On their website they tell us "this room is at the semi-basement level and below the front desk area". This would have been fine, however you are actually underneath the dining room, and just at the top of the stairs is the open kitchen. So from 5am, there was alot of noise from the kitchen echoing down the small set of stairs as the staff prepare for breakfast, and from 7am there is the noise of chairs being moved about on the wood floor above. I'm a relatively heavy sleeper, but this did get on my nerves. Maybe pack the ear-plugs.

Would definitely recommend this place and will go again, but won't be staying in 504.

Room Tip: DON'T PICK 504 unless you're a VERY heavy sleeper or have ear-plugs.
