“Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2014

This weekend my husband I went to watch the hockey game. The location is excellent... attached to the train station and underground mall and close to the hockey game and restaurants.

We chose this hotel bc it was listed as one of the luxury hotels through our AMEX. It was not luxury. Service was average, no complaints but nothing spectacular.

The room was the smallest I have ever been in. There was no room to move. There was dust on the dresser and table. It was really disappointing.

For the price I definitely would not stay here again or recommend it. I think there are hotels in that area that are much nicer for the price.

Dear Christine M - We're very sorry to hear this visit wasn't as memorable as expected. Although we're happy to hear you found the location of the hotel to be excellent, we apologize for not meeting your expectations in terms of size of the guest room. Please know we have also shared your comments with our Executive Housekeeper to follow up regarding the dust issues encountered. Thank you again for your time and we still hope to have an opportunity to welcome you back to one of our properties in the future. Best regards.

Decided to stay here in part based on close proximity to the pier where we were embarking on a Holland America cruise from Montreal to Boston. But also because I had experienced high quality Fairmont properties in Vancouver, Chicago, and Whistler in the past. However, the quality was quite average for the price, and the "views" and room quality was really over-hyped. The food quality in the restaurants left much to be desired, as well (tough filet, and a bit of disinterested service attitude). I will say the front desk staff were pleasant, and the hotel is convenient to an interesting sub-ground shopping complex just an escalator away. But I would never stay here again, as it far underperformed the price point. An overall disappointing experience for what I thought would be a classy choice. You can do better elsewhere.

Your comments regarding the service in our restaurant will be shared with the restaurant team and we appreciate your feedback. That being said, we're glad you enjoyed the service provided by our front desk staff members and the location of the hotel. Well located for visitors with metro and interstate trains below along with a good shopping mall.

Very nice foyer however this does not extend to the overall quality of the rooms.

In our case, the bathroom was very small with shower in the bath. Biggest problem was no bathroom storage sufficient for our toiletries. Small shelves located directly over the toilet!

Had dinner in the main restaurant and overall, food was very good.

Service was effervescent but basic care was a bit strange - empty bread basket and used glasses were left on the table for a long time as waiters rushed past. And it was not a busy night. Maybe quarter capacity.

All the hotel staff especially the concierge were very friendly and helpful except for the Bell desk serviceman Chan. He was not friendly when asked to store our bags at the end of our stay. And beware, they charge you $2.00 per bag for storage - first time we encountered a fee anywhere in the world!

This is an elegant hotel with very comfortable beds. The service level is excellent from the check-in, concierge and to the room service. There is an excellent spa connected to the hotel and a must if you want to indulge yourself.

Stayed on the Fairmont Gold floor. Everything was excellent. Loved the little touches. Also atmosphere and food provided in the Gold Lounge was amazing. Had the highest quality and quantity of food Ive seen in a hotel lounge. Room was fantastic, bed was one of the most comfortable Ive been in. Service was excellent everyone was friendly and went out of their way to help. Already planning a return trip.

Visited for business but even if it was for pleasure, I will not be staying here again.

The Good:
- location - so perfect if you're taking the train and doing business downtown.
- I really enjoyed going to the train station to grab breakfast or a quick dinner and people watch
- The bed is comfortable and plenty of comfy pillows
- The lounge looked pretty nice
- Internet speed is good

The Bad
- Stained carpets. This is not acceptable for a hotel of this caliber. Not just one stain.. the carpet had multiple, very visible stains.
- Broken iron - water kept leaking all over my clothes because the iron cap was broken
- Very small bathroom
- No room to put my toiletries and make up
- No complementary water - charging almost $10 for a bottle of water is unacceptable... this should be complementary

There are enough cons to outweigh the pros... especially since there are many other hotels in the area.

Dear princessS - We appreciate the candid feedback you shared further to your visit in February. We're glad to hear you enjoyed the location of the hotel, the comfort of the bed and the internet speed, however we're sorry for not meeting your expectations on this occasion in terms of the guest room. We're sorry about the stains on the carpet and for the broken iron. This is indeed surprising since we recently changed all irons for new ones in all guest rooms. That being, we would appreciate if you could contact us directly at qeh.hotel@fairmont.com so that our Executive Housekeeper can address those issues immediately. We apologize for not providing you with the hotel experience you expected and we thank you for taking the time to share such detailed comments. We still hope to have an opportunity to welcome you back to one of our properties in the future. Best regards.

Stayed here for one night on Valentine weekend. Convienent location from the metro (though a little bit of a walk). Check in was quick. Standard room was a little small but the king sized bed was very comfortable ! Room service food was good although a little pricey but portions were of decent size. Only complaint I have is that the walls are not very sound proof, but still had a very sound sleep.
