We reserved the Marriott Montreal Chateau Champlain to attend the Montreal vs. Blackhawks game. We are a family of four (2 adults, 2 children ages 10,12 ). Overall, great location and accomodations and would gladly come back and stay.
Arrival: Upon our arrival, we couldn't have received a more welcome greeting from the entire staff starting even before we entered the hotel by the bell captain, the receptionist desk and my favorite - Yves at the Conceriege desk. Being a novice visitor to Montreal, Yves provided us with wonderful recommendations for local activites in and around the city to include restaraunts and tourist attractions as well as provided a detailed guide of getting from point A to point B either by foot, car or metro. I believe he has been with the hotel for 46+ years and clearly I can see why the hotel has retained his services. If you are in the need for guidance and recommendations, I encourage you to find Yves!
Room: We found the room accomdations to suit our family very well. Fortunately, we were accomodated a wonderful room facing the city (room 2707) which I understand from other reviews is a plus as it is away from any construction noise. We had a beautiful view of downtown and all of it's lights and action which is what we were looking for. Elevator service was always quick (maybe because it was January in Canada) so never really had to wait. The bathroom shower did make some noise when it was running - however did not call the maintenance to notify as we didn't find it completely annoying but were more concerned about the impact to our neighbors who may be trying to rest. Also, we enjoy a cool room (65-67 degrees) and found that we could never quite get the room to cool down. This was opposite of what I read from other reviews of rooms not being warm enough.
Room Service: On our last evening, my daughter and I stayed in and ordered room service. I was pleasantly suprised by how quick the room service was (within 10 minutes of ordering). Upon delivery, I had posed a question to the waiter if they were showing a game on the t.v. He indicated that it is usually on one of the stations in which I did find. What was a nice surprise is about 10 minutes after delivery of our food, he called our room to inquire if our food was satisifactory and also informed me of the station the game was on. That's a personal touch as small as it is, shows that this hotel cares for it's guests and their experience.
Location: If you are attending an event at the Bell Centre, it really doesn't get any better than this hotel and location. It was a matter of minutes (either above ground or below via the underground network) which made it nice during inclimate weather. It's also right above the metro station and you can walk through the underground tunnels and shop, catch a subway or connect over to other streets en route without facing the outside elements. This is especially nice during cold, winter months. We did catch the subway once to visit the Biodome. We found the subway system to be easy to navigate after our first trip towards the Olympic Parc. The locals were also very helpful to make sure we were heading in the right direction. The only downfall with the underground is the population of homeless in and near the subway entrances. While they didn't bother any passerby's during our visit as often they were sleeping on the benches, one of them was a little vocal which scared my daughter who we then had a tough time bringing her back down there. Instead, we bypassed the area we knew where they were by traveling above ground and then headed down through the tunnels through the office building next door (1000 de la gauchetiere).
The hotel also has an onsite Starbucks and a small convenient store to pick up snacks and gifts. We found this convenient as we were frequent visitors to pick up bottles of water, morning coffee, etc...
My family enjoyed our stay at the hotel and we will be coming back to stay again!
