I spent 2 nights on a business trip at this Montreal downtown hotel -- moved to the W subsequently ( a much better choice).
The hotel looks recent from the outside and the lobby area. The rooms are decorated in a mix of plain vanilla Marriott and old-fashioned InterConti marble & brass that used to be fashionable in the 1980s... No wow effect, although I was assigned a Tower Suite -- actually two rooms on the smaller side with an entirely useless huge hallway and a bathroom decorated with marble, tiles and faucets that must have been on sale when the hotel was constructed.
The room was a little stuffy and took several discussions with the cleaning lady, front desk and maintenance to get somebody to set the windows ajar for an hour to let some fresh air into the space poorly ventilated by the airconditioning unit.
Service in general was very nonchalant; raising the shoulders in resignation must be the gesture taught to the customer frontline staff. They should change that for vigorous nodding and one or the other speak after me - "THANK YOU FOR YOUR BUSINESS, MR. CUSTOMER" exercise. Wifi coverage in my room was virtually non-existent, so I asked for maintenance to take a look or provide a portable repeater/network extender. Platinum Ambassador front office staff answer: "on peut rien faire, but I certainly will pass on your observation."
The club is oh-kay, but more of a Westin/Marriott affair offered graciously to Gold members rather than justifying a hefty supplement.
The gym is a weird set up with restricted space both overhead and on the floor...
I think I'll pass on this hotel, next time I come to Montreal.
