“So-so on customer service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

I spent 2 nights on a business trip at this Montreal downtown hotel -- moved to the W subsequently ( a much better choice).

The hotel looks recent from the outside and the lobby area. The rooms are decorated in a mix of plain vanilla Marriott and old-fashioned InterConti marble & brass that used to be fashionable in the 1980s... No wow effect, although I was assigned a Tower Suite -- actually two rooms on the smaller side with an entirely useless huge hallway and a bathroom decorated with marble, tiles and faucets that must have been on sale when the hotel was constructed.

The room was a little stuffy and took several discussions with the cleaning lady, front desk and maintenance to get somebody to set the windows ajar for an hour to let some fresh air into the space poorly ventilated by the airconditioning unit.

Service in general was very nonchalant; raising the shoulders in resignation must be the gesture taught to the customer frontline staff. They should change that for vigorous nodding and one or the other speak after me - "THANK YOU FOR YOUR BUSINESS, MR. CUSTOMER" exercise. Wifi coverage in my room was virtually non-existent, so I asked for maintenance to take a look or provide a portable repeater/network extender. Platinum Ambassador front office staff answer: "on peut rien faire, but I certainly will pass on your observation."

The club is oh-kay, but more of a Westin/Marriott affair offered graciously to Gold members rather than justifying a hefty supplement.

The gym is a weird set up with restricted space both overhead and on the floor...

I think I'll pass on this hotel, next time I come to Montreal.

We spent six nights at the Intercontinental and had an enjoyable stay. The room was spacious, exceptionally quiet, had a safe, and a fridge (major plus!). Bathroom had both shower and separate tub (also spacious). For business travelers the hotel is close to the convention center and not far from subway (and bike) stations. The Wi-Fi was consistent (although only free in lobby for most) and the gym and pool (although small) were well suited for workouts. The hotel itself is in a good location - close to many restaurants, Old Montreal, Chinatown, downtown, etc and we found the concierge recommendations to be fairly good.

The only disadvantage is the parking - self-parking is $23/day and requires driving to the bottom of a garage and then using three elevators to get to your room. Don't drive if you don't have to when in Montreal - take advantage of the convenient public transportation system to explore Mile End, Mont-Royal Ave, Botanical Gardens, etc.

Room Tip: High floors offer nice views.

Excellent hotel with superb rooms located in a very convenient area in Montreal between the old part and downtown. Very good restaurant and room service. Wifi only free of charge for ambassador members. Choose a room on a top floor for the nice view. Interior swimmingpool interesting although a bit small, but with a nice sun-deck

Room Tip: Get top floor rooms

The InterContinental Montreal hotel room has a very nice and spacious room, spacious and well appointed bathroom, and excellent bed to sleep on. It is a very quiet and restful room. The people that work there are great. The restaurant has excellent people with quick service and is very reasonably priced. All of the workers are very friendly everywhere. And you can get a really great price online unless it is a busy weekend. St. Catherines street is only 3 or 4 blocks north, a short walk. Old Monteal is very close too. Cheap parking is 1 block north. There is a small shopping mall and eating area downstairs without going outside. The InterContinental Montreal is the best place to stay with the most reasonable price.

Further to a previous review, booked through Priceline, requested 2 double beds. Hotel makes no attempt to fulfill the request, Simply offers to change your room to a double bed configuration for $20/night surcharge with a smug look. Self Parking is $23/night -10 floors underground. Plenty of choices in the area, I would pass on this one.

I stayed at the hotel with my wife for 4 nights. We booked a double room and were impressed with the size of the spacious room, which contained two smallish double beds, a seating area, and a useful fridge. However, the room was fairly dimly lit and the positioning of the light switches were somewhat of a mystery to us! The hotel has a car park nearby, which is fairly expensive, although on a par with others in the area. We were a little aggrieved to be informed on check in that the wi-fi was not included, and that we could have it for a 'special deal' price of $12 per day before tax. Considering this hotel is in the business district of Montreal this seemed to us to be a facility that the hotel should be providing their customers free of charge! The hotel location is not great as there is a substantial walk to many of Montreal's more popular tourist areas/hang outs, it is surrounded by other hotels and office blocks and does not have any shops/bars/restaurants nearby. Overall this is a very nice hotel, although it was fairly impersonal and would probably suit a business clientele more than holiday makers.

We stayed for four nights at the hotel. The corner kingsize room was brilliant. the hotels location was also really good, just beside Old Montreal.

We had the breakfast option where the food and staff were very good.

One of the biggest pluses was the concierge Jamel, who booked our evening meals every night and did all that he could to make our stay a memorable one.
