“Good Value for Montreal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2010

I stayed with some girlfriends for a weekend getaway. The hotel was very busy with a conference, so we didn't get our room preference. We were stuck with a smoking room on the bottom floor of the hotel. However, despite that I thought this Hilton was a great value for the room amenities and location. The room was very clean, and beautiful decor. The pillows and duvet were out of this world....but I expect this from every Hilton I stay at. It is quite a walk to the downtown core of the city that we were interested in, but there is a Metro (subway) stop inside the hotel so that helped us get around. The pool looked absolutely beautiful, but we didn't get a chance to take a swim. Staff was very helpful and friendly. I would consider it again for our next trip to Montreal.

The location is convenient to the city centre and the staff quite helpful. Our room, a superior double, was OK but really the whole place could do with some new wallpaper and carpets! It's comfortable but not the 4* it purports to be and therefore not good value.

Thank you for your comments on the Hilton Montreal Bonaventure. Rest assured we value your opinion and deeply care about the input of our guests. We were pleased to read your comment about the convenient location and the helpfulness of our staff. We were somewhat surprised to read that you felt our hotel needed ‘urgent refurbishment. For your information, the hotel was completely renovated in 2009/2010 (guestrooms, corridors, banquet areas, public space etc.) with beautiful rich bright colors throughout, new furniture in all our rooms including 32 inches flat screen TV’s, serenity beds by Hilton. We are putting the final touch on our $18 million renovations with the completion of our brand new executive lounge in January 2011. We certainly hope that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back again at the Hilton Montreal Bonaventure.

hotel in central downtown location. Comfortable, the greatest asset is the garden with swimming pool on the top floor is even heated in winter ! Book a room on the executive floor and enjoy complimentary breakfast and evening appetizers and snacks for a small fee. A perfect hotel to stay in the city.

My wife and I spent 5 days at the Hilton Bonaventure. It was our second stay there and we were very pleased. Some of the appointments in the hotel were a bit dated and there were occassional plumbing problems (the water shut off in the shower on two separate occasions before restarting 15-20 seconds later), yet our overall impressions were very positive. Our room was large and spacious. The breakfast buffet was ample with good service. The concierge staff was incredibly attentive and helpful and the hotel's location was excellent. The hotel also has one of the outdoor swimming pools in the area which we appreciated. I would certainly recommend this hotel although I hope the hotel attends to the water issues.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2010

I stayed at the Hilton Bonaventure on a Saturday night in July 2010. We arrived in Montreal by train late in the evening during a thunderstorm, so we were happy to find that we could walk from Central Station to the Hilton without going outside. I made our reservation on the internet, requesting a room with 2 beds, but found the options too expensive, so booked a room with a king bed and sofa-bed. At check-in I found that based on the initial 2-bed request that had put us in a room with 2 double beds. By then I had decided that I actually preferred the king room. The person checking us in happily switched us to a king room (she said the last one they had available). Overall check-in was very friendly and pleasant. She offered us a map of the area and pointed out key places nearby we might want to see.

The hotel is somewhat unusual in that it is only 3 floors, but sits atop another very large building. Many rooms, including ours, face large courtyards with greenery and streams, giving the hotel a pleasant quiet feel. Our room was a comfortable size, clean, and appropriately furnished. The air conditioning worked well, and there were no problems at all with noise from other rooms. The outdoor pool looked very nice, but unfortunately due to the weather we were unable to take advantage of it.

Breakfast in the restaurant the next morning was enjoyable. The food was tasty, and there was a large selection of both typical North American breakfast items as well as more European items. Checkout was also fast and easy. Overall we had a very enjoyable stay.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2010

Stayed recently for 3 nights. As stated in previous reviews, the hotel is composed of much concrete. Feels cave like in areas and takes getting used to. The rooms are very well appointed- great beds, pillows and toiletries, very clean Concierge lounge is very small, no views, but has excellent breakfast foods and nice appetizers in the evening and very good service. The hotel was rather quiet when we visited so the size of the lounge was adequate but I imagine if the hotel is full, the size would be a huge problem. The pool area is nice but that too is small and loungers are hard to come by and very uncomfortable.
Location is close to underground access to shops, train. Easy on and off access to highway.

The hotel is on the top of a conference center/shops building with side entrance through the gates. It has an interesting garden with a pond, river, and waterfall. The rooms are spacious and yes you may need to carry your luggage over stairs unless you find the stairs with roller boards placed over them. The front desk informed me that they were working on placing them over every stair. In the mean time, you can use a service elevator, which is located to the left from you when you look toward corridor to the lobby once you are on the check in floor. The concierge and some attendants at the Club Lounge were helpful and knowledgeable. The food at the Club was one of the best, but the Club was often crowded. As for the location, it is great - you are within walking distance from old town, the port, the shops, and right across the main train station. In addition, the hotel is part of the Underground City connection, which is probably helpful during cold and windy winter months. I like the hotel and look forward returning there.
