“Lovely place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2012

A very nice cemetery, lots of history here. However having visiting some other large historical cemeteries (Mount Pleasant in Toronto & Mont Royal next to this one) I was surprised that there was no map available showing where famous people were buried. We asked at the office & the girl acted like she had no idea what we were talking about. Still a nice place to spend a few hours wandering.

“A Must see for cemetery lovers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2012

This cemetery (Catholic) and Mount Royal Cemetery (non-Catholic) are adjacent to one another with separate entrances. They are set on the hillsides offering a rolling landscape. It makes for an interesting drive through because so many monument style tombstones are very unusual, dramatic, beautiful sculptures etc.. Many historical figures are buried here e.g. D'Arcy McGee, a Father of Confederation and all French Canadian politicians and their families. You may see the resident foxes and raccoons darting among the tombstones and trees. I love parking my car and strolling through the cemetery. In autumn with the trees all in golds and reds it truly is a tranquil and beautiful place. Bring your camera.

“CDN Cemetery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2012

Yes, a cemetery, but located on the side of the mountain and quite a beautiful location. Nice to walk through and a good place of trace some family tree if you have relatives from Montreal.

“Worth a few hours of your time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2010

If you're a student of history and appreciate cemeteries for the unique glimpse of local history that they provide, then this particular cemetery should be high on your list. There are over 900,000 souls buried here, many of significant local prominence. In addition, the grounds of this facility are spectacular...a sprawling venue that can provide you with hours of peaceful and meditative exercise if you choose to explore it on foot.

As I am a Geocacher, I spent over 3 hours doing just that while locating the markers specified by this Geocache listing; it provided me with a sampling of most of the areas this venue has to offer:
