“What a great place to stay in Montreal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

Great location, very friendly and helpful staff, very clean, comfortable and attractive room. Rooftop pool on the 28th floor is a big plus, 2 downsides: very slow elevator service; doors to the rooms require a bit of push to close which causes a loud noise at night every time someone closes their door.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the river. Also we've heard that not all the rooms have been renov...

My wife, our teenage niece, and I stayed here for two nights in the summer, and appreciated the degree of privacy that the divider between the sitting area (with sofabed) and the sleeping area with two full beds that our room had. We also appreciated the small dining table and fully stocked kitchenette (with service for four, teapot and kettle, small pot and pan, fridge, and even an oven). Unlike many downtown hotels, this one even had several coin-operated washers and dryers, for $2 each. The rooftop pool is another attraction for those not afraid of heights. The location is perfect, the staff friendly, and the rates reasonable. Our room did not have much of a view, but we did not miss it.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the bottom few floors so you can use the stairs. It is a 28-storey hotel, and...

Stayed here on a recent weekend during the jazz fest.

Have now stayed here several times, and believe it to be one of the best hotel values in Downtown MTL. Decently sized suite, good kitchen (which generally goes unused, save for fridge), Metro just a block away, and easy walks to jazz fest, Crescent Street bars, Ste Catherine St, Bell Centre and Mont Royal. Also, accommodating staff, decent rooftop pool with great view of the city, and parking--always a bane of MTL trips--is generally $10/day cheaper than other hotels.

Overall, a solid hotel that will always be on my radar when heading to Montreal.

Room Tip: As noted in review, hotel parking is generally $10/day cheaper at Le Cantlie than other hotels (abou...

On a recent trip to Montreal with my teenage daughter we stayed at Hotel Le Cantlie Suites. We booked it based on reviews on this website. While not unsatisfied with the hotel, I am not sure it is worth the price you pay. Especially with so many choices for the same price in the city.
Pro's:
Clean rooms, helpful staff, large suites, very comfortable beds and a great location. This hotel is very centrally located with walking access to Old Town and The Old Port, as well as St. Catherine St shopping and the universities. Everything else is easily accessed using the transit system.
Con's:
Expensive, depressing decor, lackluster breakfast buffet, aging pool area and roof deck, iffy cleaning staff.
Our room, a one bedroom suite with 2 beds and a sofa bed, was updated but depressing. The bedroom is bright and not bad but the sitting room was dark and poorly lit. Also there was nothing but beige paint on the walls, no art at all. The bathroom was very small. The breakfast buffet is deffinately a negative. The selection did not change over four days, scrambled eggs, french toast, bacon, sausages and homefries, with cereal, yogurt, pastries, limited cheeses, tomtatoes and limited fruit (cantalopue, honeydew melon and pineapple) toast and bagels. The buffet emptied quickly and was slow to be refilled and then only if someone asked. At $16.00 it was not worth it. The maid staff was not great. Somedays there was no coffee or tea left, towels were left on a chair in the sitting room, counter was not wipe down and a leaky toilette, that left a puddle on the floor every day was never looked at and it was hard to miss. The pool was outdated and old looking and the rooftop patio had seen better days. The dirty towels at the pool were in a pile spilling all over the floor and no new clean ones could be seen on a few occasions. All in all it was not worth the money.

After spending several nights in our cramped and old hotel in Manhattan, the Hotel Cantlie was like a breath of fresh air. The check-in was pleasant and helpful, the room was large, clean, and tastefully renovated. Our suite came with a well-stocked small kitchen that we put to good use. Finally, the location of this hotel was unbeatable: right in the heart of downtown Montreal and within a couple of blocks of McGill University, where we were attending our daughter's graduation. I'd like to reiterate how helpful the front desk clerk was: he treated us like welcomed guests and promptly gave us maps and information about the immediate surroundings of the hotel. This was in stark contrast to the efficient but indifferent attitude we got from our Manhattan hotel.

About the only downsides to our hotel were: (1) The rooftop pool was not yet open for the season, which was too bad because it had an awesome view of the city and it was a sweltering 30 degrees when we were there. (To illustrate the wild temperature swings of the city, the font desk told me it was only 5 degrees the week before.) (2) Wireless internet was not included, but it was a reasonable $4.95/day. They have a business centre equipped with computers and a printer that guests can use at no charge. The no-internet was offset by the 24-hr fitness room, which *was* included at no extra charge.

All in all, we enjoyed our stay at Hotel Cantlie and would stay with them again the next time we're in Montreal.

Stay here for great access to the Museum of Fine Art, Rue St Catherine, the Bell Centre, and other attractions. The staff were helpful, the room was very nice, and I would gladly stay here again. Also rooftop pool with a nice view if the city.

Albeit a little aged, the hotel is very clean, quiet, with excellent beds, sheets and towels. The mini kitchen fits in a closet and the well stocked bathroom is a little small. But the view from the rooftop pool is fantastic. The staff are also very friendly and helpful. We had an issue with a non-draining bath tub and it was fixed promptly.
If you are hooked on your electronic devices please note that the free Internet may only be available in the business centre; otherwise there is a daily fee for wi-fi.
If you prefer fresh air to recycled please note that the windows do not open.
We would stay there again.
