“Fabulous French bistro!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2013

After reading reviews for this place, we sent there and had a fabulous meal! The duck confit was the BEST EVER!! The service was great...attentive, but not overbearing. Small menu but good choices. Only thing I wouldn't order again was the chocolate dessert.....didn't like the crunchier in the mousse, but the chocolate flavor was excellent. I wish I had a neighborhood bistro like this place!

“Great little find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

Based on other TA reviews, we decided to try this little bistro out on Saturday evening, even if it was slightly out of the main tourist route. We had made a reservation earlier in the week and were promptly greeted and seated when we arrived at this cute little bistro that reminded us of being tucked away in Paris. Catherine, the ever gracious hostess, helped out with our wine selection (which was a terrific pick!). The amuse-bouche of salmon mousse was sooo tasty, we couldn't wait to try the rest! We shared the foie gras terrine appetizer and it was a melt-in-your-mouth delight! I ordered the steak-frites and David had the steak tartare - both were very well prepared and presented. Very tasty choices! We shared creme brulée and lingered a little longer over coffee and liqueur, listening to some great music and enjoying a chat with Philippe and Catherine - very lovely couple running a charming little bistro! Would definitely not hesistate recommending and it's well worth the extra few minutes to get out of the core tourist area for a great bistro meal!

“Excellent French bistro food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

The restaurant is a bit out of the way in terms of the main tourist areas of Montreal, but the location probably helps explain the very reasonable prices. On a cold day, a cab is the best way to get there. The service (from the wife of the husband-wife team) is at a relaxed pace but prompt when needed. Translation to English of the menu was provided. The appetizers are excellent (foie gras and escargot were our classic choices). The main course was slightly mixed. The duck was excellent and the lamb was quite good but a little too fatty. Dessert as usual was very good. It's a solid choice for traditional French bistro fare in Montreal

“Special Restraunt at Reasonable Prices”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

This was our favorite restaurant in Montreal, all things considered. This is a small restaurant with a very high customer demand, so reservations are a must. We saw several people turned away that did not have reservations. The food and service is flawless. It is not fancy, but the food is truly gourmet and as a bonus the prices are amazingly low. This should be at the top of your restaurant list when visiting Montreal. Bon appetite!

“More Than Just a Meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

A welcome escape from a snowstorm, Duo D provided excellent ambience and food for an evening of conversation.

Service was excellent; food was cooked to perfection. My companion had the rack of lamb which was so tender as to melt in your mouth; I had the cod with just a hint of curry. Both entrees were sizeable portions. Dessert was a light yet delicately flavourful creme brulee. Delicious!

Most appreciated was the ample spacing between tables - good for those who prefer a more private setting.

The Duo D husband-wife hosts provided a warm and personal service. Timing was perfect for discreet water refill and meal delivery. When having to ask for something, it felt comfortable to do so and the response was quick and with a smile.

My dinner companion has been a regular customer; this was my first time and sure to return. Duo D deserves high recommendation and, as a result, it is being 'discovered' daily which makes reservations a must.
