“If this is the chapel behind the Cathedral, I'm a fan”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

Very quiet, relaxed, and comfortably cool inside. This chapel was damaged by fire in '78, and it now has a modern flavor to it -- I really thought it was cool.

“the most beautiful church I have ever seen.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

This was a spectacular basilica. Make sure to take a tour when you visit. If you don;t, it will still be beautiful, but you will not have the chance to appreciate the history of the building.

“Magnificient church worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

We saw this church three times in all. First with a Viator city bus tour where we just had a glimpse it. Then we did a guided tour of old Montreal, again with Viator. The guide took us inside the church and actually walked with us to the back of the building where a smaller chapel is located. The change of colors from the deep blues to the warm browns in the small chapel is awesome and the architecture really beautiful.
We also attended the church service Sunday morning, since one person in our group was catholic. It so happened that a choir was singing, accompanied by the 1648 pipes of its organ. You have to be there to hear the sound.
I also learned that there are organ concerts in this church and I will not miss it when my mother comes to visit. Presently the International Organ Festival at Notre-Dame of Montreal
(From July 7th to August 25th, 2013) at 7pm is taking place. Check out their website if you want to find out more!

“Baby Paris Notre-Dame”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

This is like Paris Notre-Dame's little (Canadian) brother on the outside.
The inside is traditional Cathedral but with a happier than usual decor including many blue hues and unique stained glass windows telling stories of early settlers to the area.
There is a private (glass enclosed quiet) prayer room for the faithful.
Also the back of the church is alive and new and quite functional with a very cool modern twist on chapel architecture.
Restrooms are available.
Be sure to check out the church a night when it is fully lit from the square.
