Owner description: An oasis in the heart of the city, the Montréal Biodôme recreates some of the most beautiful ecosystems of the Americas:the lush and humid Tropical Rainforest, warm even in the depths of a Montréal winter;the Laurentian Maple Forest, changing with the seasons;the Gulf of St. Lawrence;and the Subpolar Regions of the Americas: Labrador Coast and Sub-Antarctic Islands. The Biodôme, whose name means “house of life,” shows visitors the “true nature” of the Americas, by offering up their loveliest and most amazing ecosystems. When the Biodôme opened in 1992, its “ecosystem” concept was a world first. Twenty years later, this systemic approach still has no equal in the faithful and complex way in which it represents the natural environment (its “rocks,” climates, lighting, etc.) and how both the animal species themselves and the animal and plant species interact. Our commitment to protecting the environmentThe Biodôme, just like the other Space for Life institutions (the Botanical Garden, Insectarium and the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium), aims to raise individual and collective awareness about the need to get involved in protecting our natural heritage. It carries out its mission through educational, conservation, research and outreach efforts.

“It is interesting but ....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

This is a cool concept but it's not worth your money. My boyfriend is a huge science nerd and he was bored. We thought it would be so much more than it was. My fav part about the whole experience was the gift shop and penguins they had inside the dome. They were cute. Find something else to do and let this be your last resort. We wish we would have went to the casino de Montreal instead

“Fabulous spot to spend a few hours,”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2013

This is a very interesting spot to explore the flora and fauna of Canada. Admission is charged with preferential rates given to children, students, seniors, and Quebec residents. There are lockers and coat checks available for a nominal fee. Some of the areas are extremely hot and humid, so checking winter coats is recommended. Although the tropic, St. Lawrence, shield areas were interesting, I think that the highlight has to be the penguin area where you can see penguins walk, eat and swim. They put on a real show. There is adequate seating and informative guides provide interesting facts about penguins, both in French and English. You can see them walking on the snow and then walk down steps to see their antics under water.

“Enjoyable visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

I dropped by this place during a 2 week business trip. Even though none of my business associates wanted to go with me, I had no trouble getting there by myself. It was very easy to get to by public transit. I had a lot of fun and saw many different animals. You can see many of them up close and the enclosures are clean with educational exhibits.

“An enjoyable way to spend an hour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2013

A very creative and educational way to transform an Olympic venue! While the tropical forest and Canadian Shield exhibits were worth the visit, we particularly enjoyed the birds of the Gulf of St. Lawrence--wonderful to be able to see them swimming underwater.

“good for kids, very short”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2013

My wife and I have been to several zoos and were a little disappointed with this. The quality was ok but it was too small for the price they charged. Would not go again based on this. It would be good if you do have kids though.
