“Welcome back, Ritz-Carlton!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

A few days after the Ritz-Carlton reopened I popped in for a look. The front desk staff are so (justifiably) proud of the renovations they gave a tour of the ground floor rooms. Came back the next week for lunch with a friend and we were again proudly shown the changes, with interesting historical construction trivia thrown in. (We then did an unauthorized tour of the reception rooms on the second floor. Beautiful and in keeping with the tradition of the old hotel.

Although I lament the disappearance of the old Ritz Cafe, lunch in the new restaurant was excellent.. Returned for dinner for six and again impressed with the food. And the service - AAAAHH!!! The bar is not as intimate as the former basement Maritime Bar, but has a well executed modern design. And my son's observations indicate the bar is a good place for young professionals to mix.

Last month I took a Toronto friend to the 'garden' for brunch. Again, good food, service and room design. In the 60's and 70's I lived near the Ritz and Sunday's indulgence was buying the NY Times at the Ritz news stand and taking it to breakfast with the ducks. Was initially against the conversion of part of the garden to a solarium off the restaurant - until we ate there in March. Will be back this month with my husband and hope the ducks are too.

Hopefully, the news stand will be reinstated. It connected the hotel to the neighborhood.

Sherbrooke Street lost much of its vibrancy during the closing of the Ritz. The sight of it looking like an abandoned queen with garbage in its urns and the occasional doorway sleeper and construction debris in front saddened all of us who had loved her. The long-awaited reopening restores life to Sherbrooke.

Congratulations and welcome back, Ritz-Carlton!!!

This jewel nestled in Montreal has one of the best rooms I've ever stayed in. Everything is automatic at the touch of a conveniently placed button. The automatic lights have settings for every need. There is even an automatic function that lights the way to the bathroom as soon as you put your foot on the floor from the side of the bed. Once in the bathroom, the opulence and pampering continues. The automatic toilet with heated seat does everything for you, and I mean everything! The shower, vanity and commode setup is perfect from an esthetic and functional setup. There is even a TV in there for you. The heated mirrors won't fog up while you take a steam shower. The bilingual staff is friendly, helpful and professional. The penthouse pool is stunning. This hotel is a destination in itself. The restaurant is first rate and not to be missed. Maison Boulud is a Daniel Boulud restaurant, best known for his restaurant, Daniel in Manhattan.

The hotel has been renovated top to bottom and it is beautiful, stylish, open, spacious, classy, sophisticated, friendly, comfortable and luxurious. Check out the pool and deck on the top floor.
The staff, very professional but also very approachable. Always a greeting in the common areas.
Our room was large and not crowded with furniture, lights, temperature and blinds controlled by the touch of a couple buttons. The room and bathroom felt extremely clean which I appreciate. The bathroom is almost like having your own spa. Large shower with multiple shower heads and body jets. There is a TV in the wall to entertain while shaving to showering or sitting on the throne. Speaking of the 'throne', the toilet was state- of- the- art! Sensor that lifted the lid and flushed for you, heated seat and a control pad that gave other features like a wash and dry.
The location is fairly central to the University and shopping. A longer walk or short cab to the downtown core or village.
This was easily one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. I will be back.

Room Tip: Are room was on the back of the building where it was very quiet but not much of a view. Looked into...

There really isn't anything bad to say about this place. Stunning rooms with all the latest gadgets (heated toilet seat anyone?), impeccable service and a fabulous restaurant. My only complaints are that I couldn't figure out how to work the coffee maker and there was no corkscrew in the room (which made it very difficult to take advantage of the honor bar as I'd hoped to). The pool was also closed during our stay which was a disappointment for our daughter but is something that maintenance demands on occasion I suppose. We will definitely be back for a longer stay in a few short months.

The Ritz Carlton has done extensive reno of late. Previously, the tea was served in the restaurant proper, a kind of Wedgewood room, with a harpist in attendance. It's now in the Palm Court, a very open-concept area, with couches and chairs, coffee-tables rather than dining tables, and a gas fireplace. The tea service is white china, not silver, although the three-tiered food server is silver. I give the sandwiches a 3 out of 5, the best being the cucumber, the worst the pate which was unfortunately served on gingerbread so intense it blotted out the pate taste completely. For tea we had Earl Grey, and we combined the tea and champagne, both liquids wonderful. The pastries were so so, the scones far from anything truly-scone-like, but there was Devon cream, and a very lovely rose jam. Sadly, this is now the best tea in the city, and I'd like them to step it up a bit. I'd planned on taking my food club there but now I'm having second thoughts because I don't find the environment of the Palm Court offering the elegance I want for tea, and the food is not quite up to snuff. Hopefully, they will improve this to what it had been in the past, once they get oriented after the renovations.

Just stayed there over the weekend with the family. The hotel was renovated in the past year and it shows. The rooms were spacious, clean with great decor, large bath rooms and all the modern electronics. The service was extremely friendly and attentive. Everyone was just great. Real cool infinity pool on the Penthouse level and a brand new gym with the latest equipment, that was also spotless with complimentary water and headphones. I liked everything about this hotel, Its steps from everything and walking distance to the Bell Center if you are going to catch a Habs game. Great all around! I will go back anytime I want to escape and just chill out!

There are a lot of very good hotels in Montreal and we've stayed at many of them - and the RC is definitely one of the best, if not the best at the moment in this class of hotel. Their recent renovation (complete gutting and re-do, not just a face lift) has changed this hotel from a tired grand dame hotel to a modern boutique-like hotel. Although highly modern it has not lost it's historical feel and elegance, you can still imagine and sense the presence of the past as you walk down wide hallways, through beautiful French doors, and spy little historical details.

More specifically here's what we thought of service, room, etc.

Room: We stayed in a deluxe king room facing the street. The soundproofing is amazing - you barely hear the street noise. Decor is modern but still very comfortable - very chic. Great closet and storage space. Bathroom has wonderful amenities and, yes, the toilet as other reviewers have remarked is an interesting feature. Bed was extremely comfortable. Sheets and towels - wonderful, all the very highest quality and what you would expect at this price level. No thread bare towels or pilling sheets here!

Service: Friendly and truly excellent - you can tell that they really want you to have a great stay.

Location: fabulous - a wonderful central location - good for shopping, restaurants (but seriously almost any place is in Montreal) and walking. A short cab ride to Old Montreal.

We highly recommend this hotel and can't wait for our next weekend to Montreal - we will definitely stay here again.
