“Puttin on the Ritz”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

I agree with all the "positive" reviews.
My first time in Montreal. Loved the city and loved the Ritz!
Rooms are indeed elegant. Gorgeous. Worth the price of admission.
I wanted to move in and never leave. Especially love the bathrooms and Toto toilet!!!
Excellent staff. Each and every one of them!!!!
Cannot wait to return.
Hopefully, the second elevator will be repaired by then... :)

This hotel has reopened after around four years of reconstruction and so we have stayed in other hotels in the interim - Loews (twice), Sofitel and Intercontinental - on recent trips to the city. Unquestionably the renovated Ritz Carlton is the best. The rooms are well furnished, well equiped and very comfortable. The bathroom was large and well-designed, unlike most hotel bathrooms which seem to have been designed by men who do not understand that lighting from above only makes it impossible for a woman to fix her face. The views are nothing to write to home about, as anyuone who knows Montreal will realise.
Although the hotel has only been open for a short time, the staff work like a team and they seem happy too. This is a real compliment to the management.
We'll be back.

The Ritz Carlton has always been a grand hotel in Montreal. It has recently been renovated and every attention to detail has been met. The staff are efficient at check in. The room is elegant. The floors are dark hardwood, (soft rug around the bed). There is a beautiful chandelier in the center of the room. There are two levels of window panels that are easily controlled by a switch by the bed. The lights all have dimmers, including in the closet. The large flat screen TV has good quality reception. The bathroom is divine - heated floors, and the toilet is just so wonderful, heated and controlled seat, it simply wonderful. I try and only stay in 5* hotels and have quite high standards, and this hotel hits all the marks. If I were to only offer one small criticism, it would be that I had requested a high floor in a quiet location - but was placed on a lower floor in the middle of the hallway. We had to turn up our TV a bit for the frisky couple next door, but for the most part, the walls were thick and the room quiet. First impressions count for me and when a hotel tries to fulfill special requests, it is impressive. However, I do note that there was a large conference so the hotel was full. The concierge was wonderful. He was able to secure reservations at a restaurant that had been sold out for weeks. So, as harsh a critic as I am, I would most definitely give this hotel the full 5*

Whenever we come to Montreal we always stay at The Ritz Carlton Montreal. The rooms are beautifully decorated, the bathrooms are absolute heaven. The attention to detail from the staff from the moment you pull up to the hotel, to the time that you leave is very "old school". When staying at The Ritz Carlton, you are made to feel as though you are the only clients there. When you first arrive and check in, you are greeted with a warm cloth and bottled water, while the other members of the staff are seemlessly bringing in your luggage and arranging to bring it up to your room for you. The staff go above and beyond anything you would expect, which makes The Ritz Carlton THE hotel to stay at. I recently brought my friend there for her birthday, and prior to arriving spoke directly with one of the guest relations managers who ensured that we received the red carpet treatment. She made a point of coming and meeting us personally, as well as escorting us to our rooms, and ensured that all the little extras that I requested were met even when I had to change my requests at the last moment they were done with no hesitation, and ulitmately made that weekend one of the best birthdays my friend has ever had, and a lot of that is because all the staff there are only concerned with ensuring that the guests have this type of memorable visit. It is now, and will remain the only hotel we will stay at when visiting Montreal each month. A special thank you to Hilary Morden for all of her efforts, and patience.

Room Tip: The deluxe king room is the perfect size when traveling with your partner. Spacious and elegantly d...

One word: wow! The welcome, the services, the detail put into the rooms, and of course the people. When we were told that this was the first Ritz-Carlton in the world, we were not surprised! The tremendous staff were by far the highlight, and we could clearly see that this hotel will skyrocket into the top hotel in Canada. The technology was a little bit daunting at first (we would recommend someone a little less tech-savvy to ask for help from the front desk-- they are great) but really amazing. The TOTO toilet, which others have mentioned, is worth the price of a room itself just to try!
The bed and the room service breakfast.... to die for! Make sure you try the smoked salmon that is made in-house. We also had breakfast in Maison Boulud (have the duck confit baked eggs!), and the surroundings on the glass mezzanine, just beside the small pond with the ducklings swimming about... it seems like a whole other world.
Montreal is a great city to visit in itself, but having a place to stay like at the Ritz-Carlton makes it that much more memorable. We will definitely be coming back!

Room Tip: The location is unbeatable, but even the high floors have trouble having a great view. I would recom...

Very impressive make-over; rooms are loaded with high tech gadgets, including a toilet that has to be seen to be believed. The staff lives up to the Ritz reputation, friendly, helpful, competent. We had dinner at the restaurant and were very impressed.

"Welcome back to the Ritz in Montreal"
The Ritz was always a popular hotel in Montreal until its days in decline. The last time I stayed there it was showing its age. Then, like the Phoenix, the Ritz has risen from the 'ashes' and regained its swagger and popularity as a place for a luxurious stay in Montreal. The staff at the hotel from the front door, the front desk and everyone else we came across were friendly and willing to assist in any way they could. You could sense the pride they displayed represented the rebirth of the hotel's stature as "the" place to stay in Montreal. The hand addressed and hand written note of welcome in the room was a very nice personal touch. The rooms were very comfortable and my wife could not stop complimenting the hotel for the luxurious appointments in the bathroom. I think I am buying a Japanese toilet like the one in the room to keep her happy !
The new bar area is a pleasant place to spend some time waiting with very friendly staff and the breakfast on Friday, inside, next to the garden, was a great place to start the day.
We will eagerly return again and that to me is the best 'review' you can give a hotel.

Room Tip: If you have a student at McGill ask for the special rate.
