“Old Montreal Boutique Hotel Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago NEW

This is the second time we have stayed at the Auberge du Vieux-Port. The renovated rooms are at the same time rustic, but also very exquisite, e.g., modern bath with multi-directional shower. The staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast choices are reasonable and well prepared. Its proximity to the Montreal Port in the front, and the picturesque Rue St. Paul off the rear entrance of the hotel, gives it a charming location. We plan to return in a future visit.

Room Tip: We enjoyed a room facing the Montreal Port (front of the hotel).

After spending over 30 years in the customer service business in Canada for a major transportation company, I have to say that you would have to look far and wide to experience better service than at this hotel. There is nothing that is too much trouble for the hotel staff to do for a guest. It was an all round great experience to stay at this hotel and we look forward very much to a return visit. Additionally its location at the old port Montreal is ideal for exploring this part of the city and the décor and rooms are stylish and very comfortable whilst retaining the ambiance of old Montreal.

We stayed for 6 nights during a really cold spell around Valentine's Day. Due to this we made use of the bar and restaurant more than we envisaged. There was wifi and a good breakfast included in the price. The food and drinks in the restaurant/bar was of a very good standard. What made this stay special was the staff, their politeness, helpfulness and attention to detail. A great hotel which would be our only choice when we come again. Merci beaucoup.

Yes, we do live in Montreal, LOL. However, we decided to spend our 40th anniversary in another part of our city, Old Montreal. We chose the Auberge du Vieux-Port for this special occasion and I don't think we could have made a better choice. The hotel staff is wonderful: friendly, helpful and went above-and-beyond with a gift of chocolate-covered strawberries with a happy anniversary card, AND a room upgrade! Our room 403 was spacious, well-appointed and had large windows overlooking the Old Port and St. Lawrence River. The bathroom has a large walk-in shower - our favourite - and lots of hot water! The bed was super comfortable and done up with beautiful linens. Everything was spotlessly clean, too. We loved the beautiful wood floors, brick walls, and the way the original factory building has been given a new life as a lovely hotel.

This was January with plenty of snow and it was a very cold day, but our room was cozy with no drafts from the windows. It was a great spot to sip champagne and eat chocolate strawberries with the winter wonderland view of the park and the river. The hotel location is excellent for getting around Old Montreal and we enjoyed our stroll in the snow over to a nearby restaurant for dinner. Full breakfast (included with the room) was served at the Taverne Gaspar next door and we had their delicious Eggs Benedict with home fries and fresh fruit.

We would not hesitate to recommend the Auberge du Vieux-Port to our friends and anyone visiting the city. Thanks again to the staff!

Last time in '08 we truly enjoyed our VP stay and Old Montreal. This time around another couple traveled with us. One always hopes that their experience will too be positive. It was. It was my 3rd time here, and I must say the inn has improved in every way. Service at arrival, opening of the new gastro-pub (Garpar) in the building, where food in general is good. Rooms are spotless, well maintained and warm in winter. Bedding quality has improved greatly. Staff were ALL very polite and more than accommodating. It's great to see some front of house staff that worked there 6-7 years ago, a sign of a happy work environment I 'd say. If I have a gripe(-1/2 star) it's that the breakfast caters to low North American expectations and would be something I expect in a 3 star motel or greasy spoon, not a fine inn in lovely Montreal. No sign of the lovely Montreal bagels that used to be on the buffet-yes you can order them off the a la carte at an extra cost which seems strange. Cereal, fresh fruit and breakfast cooking were adequate only. Location of course is great. We parked the car 5 minutes away at the Vinci Marriott $20 a day for the week, a good recommendation.

The Auberge du Vieux-Port was absolute perfection! My husband and I stayed here in January when we came to Montreal for our honeymoon. When we entered, the hotel lobby immediately felt warm and inviting with a cozy fireplace and hot tea and coffee available.

The staff was amazing. Definitely the friendliest, most knowledgeable, and just genuinely pleasant hotel staff I have ever experienced. They were there to help with any questions about the area, or recommendations on where to go, and always had a smile and asked about our day and activities when we'd go out/come in. The valet Fred was particularly nice and even took pictures of my husband and I, running out in the cold and snow to take our picture in front of the hotel so all of our honeymoon pictures wouldn't be selfies.

The room was beautiful with the exposed brick and casement windows, and the bathroom was impeccably clean. Upon arriving to our room we found a handwritten congratulations card and a box of macaroons, which I thought was very sweet.

The hotel is in a great location for walking almost anywhere you'd want to go, and is in walking distance to three different metro stops for if you want to head over to one of the farther away neighborhoods on the other side of Mont Royal. Also I have to mention the breakfast at the hotel was the best complimentary hotel breakfast I have ever had; the breakfast potatoes were especially delicious.

Overall it was a wonderful stay and I would definitely recommend the Auberge du Vieux-Port to anyone visiting Montreal.

The hotel was cozy, comfortable and just a dream to enjoy. We had a beautiful view of the port and the park across and street and were within easy walking distance of shopping in the beautiful Old Montreal district.

Michael at the front desk was fabulous in recommending tours and restaurants and arranging it all for us. He really made our stay first class.

The adjoining restaurant was great and the free breakfast was the best I have had anywhere.

Room Tip: Definitely get port side.
