“Lovely hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

Stayed 3 nights, couldn't be more pleased. Service was exceptional, Micheal and Mylene instantly offering assistance to make the trip easier and we never felt uncomfortable asking for help. The location is wonderful, room was very comfortable. We were right next to the elevator but never heard it. The breakfast is an added bonus, full breakfast available as are lighter items all included. Loved the opportunity to run along the river as well. Would definitely return and recommend.

Room Tip: Request upper level room facing river

Having just stayed at 3 hotels in Canada in the Le Germain chain, I was wary that the Auberge du Vieux-Port might not reach similarly high standards. I needn't have worried. Location is good, in the old town near shops, restaurants etc & opposite the seafront. Reception v helpful. Rooms old-fashioned compared to modern, trendy hotels but charming in their own way. Bed & furniture v comfortable, and the room was huge so no worries about tripping over suitcases here. And to cap it off, when we arrived there weren't just the usual little box of chocolates but also a bottle of nice French wine. It's little things like these that make the difference, & if I ever go back to Montreal I will look forward to returning to the Auberge du Vieux-Port.

Room Tip: The rooms looking on to the back (away from the seafront) are noisier, due to people on the streets...

The hotel is in a perfect location, and our package included full breakfast, which was great. We were disappointed not to be there at a time of year whent the rooftop terrace was open, but we also enjoyed fewer crowds at all the places we visited. The staff is super friendly and helpful, and we ate all our meals, all good, nearby on Rue St. Paul or just off it.

Room Tip: We had a small room on the 4th floor back side, which was fun because we could open the window and o...

My husband and I booked a loft with the Auberge du Vieux-Port for our wedding night, which was held at the Auberge St. Gabriel, a few steps away from the hotel. The Auberge du Vieux-Port has a series of lofts of various sizes nearby the main building, and so we ask to get a loft as close as possible to our wedding venue. They were very accommodating, and when we ask if we could visit the loft before the wedding date (we wanted to know how much space we'd have for our wedding party/hair & makeup artists), they were helpful and showed us a few different lofts, though they could not guarantee which one we'd get upon check in. They were happy to reserve one in the closest building to our wedding venue however, which was much appreciated. We stayed in the lofts located at 408 St.Gabriel.

On the plus side: you can expect courteous and friendly service upon check in, a fully furnished loft with lots of amenities, elegantly decorated with top notch electronics, polite and helpful staff; the bellhop helped us 2 flights of stairs with all of our luggage and equipment.

There are a few things I'd suggest they improve upon however: additional help at front desk to minimize waiting times - there often is only one person in the evening - better lighting in the lofts which are on the dark side given the brick walls and dark wooden furniture; it's quit charming but if you plan to have your hair/makeup/pictures done there before a wedding, somewhat inconvenient. There was also no full length mirror in the room which is not ideal, especially for a bride ;) Lastly, the windows are not sound proof so you can expect to hear lots of noise coming from the streets, especially in the summer months given the flocks of tourists.

Parking was also expensive ($32/day), but that's to be expected in the Old Port.

Other than that, we had the most pleasurable experience at the Loft of the Auberge du Vieux-Port. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a very authentic experience in the Old Port.

The hotel is in the old part of Montreal but don't let it not being downtown put you off as it's a great location. Behind the hotel is Rue Saint Paul, the oldest street in Montreal, and this street has loads of restaurants so you have plenty of choices for food!! The hotel itself is gorgeous, very old and full of character with well appointed rooms, big and comfy beds and, according to my husband, the most amazing shower ever! We had breakfast included in our rate and it's a good breakfast, plenty of choice and tasty. The reception staff were brilliant and really helpful. Attached to the hotel is a wine bar and restaurant - we didn't try these but they looked nice.
We would definitely recommend this hotel for your stay in Montreal!

My wife and I took a three day trip to Montreal, a city we have not visited in well over ten years.
The hotel is in the old town, near city hall and the Bonsecours Market.
Staff is excellent and friendly. Room bright and overlooking the river was charming, clean and with all facilities. Ultra quiet at night, and very close to about 20 restaurants on Rue St Paul.
I would recommend to anyone.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the port/river are preferable.

Our two night stay in Montreal needed to be perfect -- it was our tenth wedding anniversary. I'm happy to report that the Auberge du Vieux-Port in Montreal did NOT disappoint!

Located in the old port section of Montreal, it's charm, warmth and sophistication were superb. The staff was friendly and very helpful -- Michael, at the front desk, was very sweet and made sure we were checked into the nicest room available. The place has a European charm while at the same time feeling like a modern hotel.

With a view looking out on the St. Lawrence river, we really loved being able to walk around the cobble stoned neighborhood full of cafes, galleries and restaurants -- super romantic. A few blocks further and we were able to stroll through some very cool bohemian/local neighborhoods well off the tourist paths. Everything you'd want to see and experience in Montreal is within walking distance.

The breakfasts at the Auberge du Vieux-Port were fantastic and served until 10:30am -- such a nice change from other hotels that force you to set an alarm or miss the meal. (We're from New York City, and have to admit that Montreal bagels are MUCH better than NY bagels-- sorry!) You can order a breakfast entree and also eat from the very fresh buffet. Breakfasts are included with the room. Loved it.

One of the best things about our room at the Auberge du Vieux-Port was the bed linens and duvet -- we really didn't want to get out of bed at all! So comfortable and cozy, we wanted to wrap up in them all day -- we really felt spoiled.

We would TOTALLY recommend this hotel to any traveler who wanted luxurious (but not terribly expensive) accommodations located in a part of town that is convenient, interesting and has many options for just about any taste.

Thanks!

Room Tip: Stay in the 'old' section of the hotel. The 'new' rooms aren't quite as charmin...
