“Why stay at the conference hotel?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2012

I decided not to stay at the downtown hotel where my confrerence was being held and instead opted for the Auberge in Old Montreal. What a great decision! This hotel is wonderful. The room was immense, the amenities first class and the included breakfast was delicious. I will be back the next time I am in Montreal.

My husband and I stayed at Auberge du Vieux-Port and were very pleased. We had purchased a special that included a discounted third night and a few extras. Check-in was smooth, and the room was exceptional; it felt much more like staying at an inn or someone's home than a hotel.
The room had a beautiful rustic feel that was cozy and charming.

We had a nice water view, which was beautiful at night, hardwood floors, king metal bed, nice bath. The room even featured bathrobes, slippers, and an umbrella.

The service was quite good. The staff assisted us with everything from making reservations for dinner to how to explore the subway system.

My only complaint was that the breakfast was a little disappointing. We booked here because breakfast was included. We like a big breakfast when we are on vacation, so we have a good start to the day before we go exploring. They have a continental style buffet and you are allowed to order off a menu. We tried the omelet, but it was very average, and the next day eggs cooked to order. The bacon and sausage were very average as well. Breakfast served the purpose, but somehow it was not anything to look forward to. The croissants, however, were quite good.

The location was nice. We arrived by train and the station was a short cab ride to the hotel. Rue St.-Paul, the main street of Old Montreal, was only a block away from the hotel.

The extras helped us tweak our plans. We had a booklet that included a discount at a little maple store that was just around the corner; round trip Metro passes; 2 for 1 admission to the Cathedral; and $25 off a spa treatment, which is located at the sister hotel a short walk away. There are many restaurants within walking distance, as well as a nice convenience store on St.-Paul for bottled water and other sundries. We were very pleased with the location.

Overall we had a memorable stay, great hotel, exceptional service, convenient location, and great extras if you book a special. We would stay again.

Room Tip: upper river view if you prefer a water view

We stayed at Auberge du Vieux-Port for two days. The location is perfect! The front of the hotel is facing the Port & the back faces a beautiful street with many great shops & restaurants. The hotel is in old Montreal which in my opinion exudes the most beauty & feeling of a nice European city. The cobblestone streets & old historical buildings surrounding the hotel are beautiful. The hotel is in walking distance of many historical sites as well as the subway & many great places to dine. The hotel feels like a cozy boutique with dark woods, exposed stone & ample comfy seating for lounging. We stayed in the hotel which has four floors but they also have lofts in another building. Our room was on the second floor facing Saint Paul Street. Queen bed with a great loft feel. Wood floors, exposed beams & stone wall surrounding the window had a great view of the street. Nice bathroom with pretty tile, bowl sink & a spa type shower. The bed mattress was on the softer side & very comfortable. On Saturday night the street area was noisy as well as someone clomping around in heels upstairs. Sunday night the businesses closed early & we had a perfectly quiet night sleep. Every morning free breakfast is served in the attached hotel restaurant. Nice assortment of fruit, pastries, coffee, juice,& also hot items to order from a menu. Each night we enjoyed our complimentary glass of wine their as well. The hotel also has a roof-top area but was closed. We really enjoyed not only the hotel but also the staff. Everyone is so friendly, professional & accommodating. We were given many good restaurant, sight-seeing & other great tips. The staff at the hotel really exemplifies great customer service. We would definitely stay here if in Montreal again.

Room Tip: Higher rooms facing water are quieter. French is first language in Montreal but most people speak En...

So nice - the rooms are clean, posh, and a little rustic. The staff is so accommodating and helpful. Both our stays at this hotel have been great. Wonderful location right on the port, great views from the windows on the river side too. Can't go wrong.

We stayed at the Auberge for our 15th anniversary weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. The front desk and bell staff were warm, friendly and so helpful. Our room was just perfect - I think it's the one in our guidebook. Great bed with squishy pillows and good shower with sunflower shower head for rain-style shower, in addition to regular nozzle. In room 103, the street noise is quite apparent. The antique windows, while lovely, do not seal out the traffic and trains.

We went over to Gaspar for our complimentary evening cocktail and stayed for two more, then we came back to this tavern for post-dinner cocktails. Breakfast was included and quite delicious - omelet cooked to order with potatoes.

The location is perfect for walking around the vieux port area, close to the waterfront.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the street will hear traffic, but enjoy a lovely view - your choice!

The spatious and comfortable loft at Auberge du Vieux-Prot was the perfect way to spend a weekend get-away with my wife for our anniversary. The staff was hospitable and helpful. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. Centrally located in the Vieux-Port, we had easy access to the waterfront, shops, and restaurants.
