“Top class, great location, good for kids”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

We stayed at this hotel with our 8 year old because it was the host hotel for an event we were attending across the street. The price was a bit more than we would usually spend, but the hotel location was great and our 8 year old LOVED the glass bottomed pool that overlooks the front entrance. There was a power outage while we were there, and while the hotel was totally urn equipped to handle it ( no emergency lights or back up power), the staff were all excellent in trying to make the guests comfortable.

My wife and I visited Montreal and decided to book the Westin. We had a wonderful time and would choose to stay their again!! We loved the Location because it is easy walk to the Old City where you can enjoy great dining, sightseeing and museums. Walk across the street and you have easy access to the Metro. We booked the rate that included breakfast and it is well worth
the price.
The hotel staff were friendly, bilingual and happy to help!!!!
We stayed on the 20th floor in a corner room and enjoyed the view and it was quiet so we sleep well.
Very nice fitness center.

Room Tip: Corner suite facing west worked out great for us

We were in Montreal after almost a decade, and things have certainly changed. We stayed three nights, and including our four-year old there was three of us on the trip.

For one, there is lots of construction going on. Not just the condo cranes, but also almost all of the overpasses and highways seem to be getting a facelift. The Charbonneau commission has created work for a lot of people!

The hotel is located very close to the main expressway into Montreal, and is very close to downtown. It is a 10 minute walk to the Old Port of Montreal and right behind the hotel is the Notre Dame Cathedral.

Lots of really nice restaurants are situated all around the old Port and worth exploring. Downtown Montreal and McGill University are a kilometre from the hotel.

If like us you are driving your own vehicle, the valet parking is very helpful. The hotel has its own underground garage, only accessible by valet, at $26/night (plus the obligatory taxes of course!). Compared to $22/ day across the street at Palais Congress, I found it very reasonable considering the personalized service. All the valets where very courteous, and personable. Our car always appeared within five minutes of asking for it.

The hotel is right across the Palais Congress (or the main convention centre in Montreal). That centre also houses the Place-des-Armes subway station. So the Metro is very accessible from the hotel.

The Check-in and Conceirge were efficient. One caution, only two floors have suits, and only one floor's suites have bathtubs in them. With our four-year old preference for a bathtub we discovered the error only on entering the room. But the front office was quick to allow us to move to another floor ( the 10th), which had a bathtub.

We had booked a suite, and while the front room was a bit tight the bedroom was a reasonable size. There was minimal noise from the rooms next door, though they seemed to also have kids in them.

There is not much of a view from the rooms, unless you really get into the higher floors. The Gazette restaurant in the lobby was good and efficient. Our only complaint there was lack of vegetarian choices in the menu, but hey this is Montreal!

We used room service on each night due to our son's bouts of hunger around 9pm and they were quite efficient and good.

The coolest feature of our son's trip was the swimming pool, which is hung (literally!) over the main lobby. While the pools are small and crowded they serve the kids needs. There was a lifeguard on duty when we were swimming, and towels were complimentary.

They also have hot and cold water pools right next to the main one. Probably not advisable for adults, except those wanting a jacuzzi.

The hotel also hosts business meetings and weddings, and that is when the lobby can get congested.

I would recommend this hotel for families with kids, of which there were a number always in the lobby.

Merci beaucoup for your feedback, eye_banker. I am happy to read your family enjoyed the extra space of the Premium room. Please come back to visit once all the work in Montreal is completed, as it should result in the city being even more pleasant. Be well,

I spent eight years working for Starwood (The W), so I have a good idea of what to expect. No issues. Free valet! Awesome. Just two blocks from Old Montreal, close to the Metro train. So, great location. Food was good as well. I just have one complaint. The asian inspired tuna sandwich on the room service menu, was screaming for some heat. I was told that there were no jalapenos or Sriracha!

Thank you very much for your good words, Mark H. I will bring your suggestion about the tuna sandwich with the Chef; maybe we’ll have a new item on the menu next time you visit! Take care,

The room was big, clean and so quiet. Our room did face St. Antoine street but there was hardly any traffic noise. The location was great and we walked to Old Montreal and to St. Catherine's street. Close to metro access but didn't realize until our last day that there was underground access to the hotel, shops and metro. I would've liked more help with tourist maps, places to eat etc in the hotel room but not much if anything. Staff were fine and helpful but not real outgoing. Nice coffee shop next door. I would definitely stay here again.

Thank you for your comments, Elana. While I understand your point about the touristic maps and travel guides, we have made a decision to offer all of these at the concierge desk in order not to overcharge the room. We are still happy to provide maps and indications upon request. I hope you enjoyed Montreal enough to pay us another visit in the near future. Be well,

Hotel in great location, clean and in safe area. Pool is small but kids loved it. Two queen bedroom small. Had fridge and microwave which we requested. Front desk service OK but not overly helpful or super friendly. For what we paid was expecting a bit more of the customer service aspect. Several minor repairs had to be done to our room (leaky sink, drawer handles fallen off). Sent someone quickly to repair but couldn't fix the sink. Found many pieces of broken glass on carpet when we arrived. We needed 5 towels and everyday housekeeping would only supply four. IGA supermarket about a 12 minute walk. Don't park in hotel...30 CAD/day. The hotel suggests place across street in front of hotel at 22 CAD BUT we found a perfectly safe, indoor garage directly to the back of the hotel at 16 CAD/day.

Thank you kindly for your feedback, Sojourn3. I will share your comment with the housekeeping and front office teams, and we will figure out how we can make sure your next visit deserves the “perfect” note. Thank you for the tip about the parking lot: it is likely to be very helpful to fellow travelers. We will make sure to add this option onto our list. Be well,

The location was excellent, very close to the shops and restaurants in Old Town. Our room was average, not luxurious. Comfortable stay but not worth the $200+ price. I did manage to get it as an unpublished rate deal for $165. That's closer to the true value of the hotel.
The pool is usually full of kids, which makes it tough to swim. The hot and cold pool are great however.
Valet parking is $30/night so we parked at an outdoor lot just down the street. It was $15/night on weekdays and $10 on weekends. Technically that allows you to park until midnight but the attendant let me know that the ticket guy doesn't come around until after 7:30 the next morning. I went back at 7:30 every morning to add more time and never got a ticket.
