“comfort above and beyond”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2012

I have always wanted to stay here the website looks so inviting and this past weekend I did.Right on St Denis this three story walk up is everything and more that it claims.Attention to detail is the key to their success.Nothing was missed. From the water in your room when you arrive to the napkin on the cup and saucer for your morning coffee.Breakfast is in your fridge each night already for the next day.The bed was more then comfortable for a good night sleep.I booked a massage and would very much recommend this. There is a room on the top floor so no need to travel outside very pleasant and professional. All staff very friendly and helpful. Will return for sure.

Every holiday presents you with a dud & this was it for us after 40 days traveling. Everything from the stairs to either the 3rd or 4th floor rooms ie no elevator, to paper thin walls, poor service & to constant traffic noise & the list goes on made this a most unpleasant sleepless stay for us.

My wife and I stayed here during a conference trip in Spring 2011. We picked this Auberge for its location, in a great neighbourhood and near a Metro (subway) stop. The price was very good. The room ("Navarre") was comfortable but small, especially with the large bed (which was very comfortable). The bathroom was also small and a bit tired. Noise from Carré Saint-Louis was not an issue for us, and the door from our room directly to the balcony was great. The spa on the roof was great, but very exposed to the midday sun. The breakfast was plentiful, and always delivered early in our case. The staff was very friendly and helpful. This is a place for those who like small independent hotels with a bit of eclectic charm off the beaten path, not chain hotels and cookie-cutter rooms.

Very unsatisfactory stay at Auberge Carré Saint Louis in Montreal for the following reasons:

Room on Rue St Denis is noisy and other continuous noise from the building can be heard all night

Cold breakfast is brought in the room on the eve, supposedly between 7 – 9 pm, but often is delivered past 9 p.m and on one occasion at 10 p.m while sleeping.

The reception stated that they were flexible and could swap food items that we do not eat. We accepted the offer and stated, among the proposed options, what we wanted. Yet, nothing was changed.

Some of the food items were inedible and one could wonder if the beverage could be named coffee!

We requested to change our room for a more quite one. The latter was indeed very small with no spaces to put up one’s clothes. The door of the corridor that leads to the room was so badly fixed that every time the door swings back to the closed position, our room was shaken (literally). The heating in the room was an absolute nightmare, with either too cold or too hot leading to dehydration during the night.

Needless to say that despite we were promised a less noisy room, it took us 2 hours to have the room changed, to end up in a rat cage.

DO NOT rely on the pictures you see on the web – sweet and glossy, but actual fact is another matter. Very disappointing and will flag this up to Quebec Tourism.

John & Aiyshwaria.

The hotel is very cool. In a cool area and close to the Metro.

There is an office with almost no lobby area. Check-In was easy and the rooms were beautiful for the price we paid.

The beds are great and the pillows are great. Be careful in the winter the hallways and rooms are hardwood and slippery.

the shower head in the Julien Room did not work well but im sure it will be fixed. There are door bells on the street to the floors and some drunken idiots at 2:30 am rang them about 30 times which sucked. They many want to consider another form of communication after 12:00 (midnight).

The breakfast was included and delivererd to the room. It was a great little breakfast. All fresh and tasty. GREAT CHEESE!

Over all a positive experience and will return.

Hands down, this was my favorite part of my trip to Montreal. Like a reviewer said before me, at first glance it doesn't seem like much. Then, when I was confronted with the steep stairs, I was more than a little nervous. However everything after that made up for it! The hotel staff is incredibly nice, and they were a pleasure to work with. No hassles whatsoever! It was all so simple.

We stayed in the Suite Tremblay, and it was beyond perfect. The room was spacious - even huge compared to hotels I usually stay at. It was clean and cozy. The bed was extremely comfortable and there was also a sofa bed. In the corner of the room was a nice hot tub (although it does kind of take forever to fill it up). The bathroom was a good size. While it wasn't large, I never felt cramped either.

Breakfast was available every morning from 7 to 10 AM. I noticed some people walking around with pancakes/waffles but I never found them myself. Other than that, there was lots of fruit, cereal, cheese, and bread. Not bad. You can actually also cook for yourself in the kitchens they have.

While I'm not sure about whether or not they have wireless, they do have a computer that you can use free of charge.

Lastly, I found the location to be pretty good. It's far enough out of the way to be in a quiet area, but close enough that everything is easily accessible by metro - it literally took 3 minutes to get to the Sherbrooke station. There is also a cute little park right next door that was beautiful when it was covered in snow. Restaurants are also just around the corner (apart from the one next door).

All in all, an excellent experience. Everyone should stay here!

It was our first trip to Montreal and we wanted a nice intimate place to stay. We found the perfect place with Auberge du Carre St. Louis! It's the perfect B&B- in fact the hotle was the highlight of our trip. We had a room with a whirlpool tub- which was amazing. My favorite part was the bed- it was so comfortable! It was hard to get out of it every morning. They serve a great breakfast every morning. Vanessa was very nice and helpful. Whenever anyone asks us about our trip- the hotel is the first thing we talk about.
