“Quiet excellence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2013 via mobile

Le Crystal is well-located, quiet, clean and very comfortable. Huge luxury bathroom with soaking tub and walk-in shower, as well as a separate small sitting area and kitchenette. Did I mention quiet? I think this is the quietest hotel I've ever stayed at. I would definitely stay there again.

After our AirBNB place cancelled on us last minute, we ended up at the Crystal for 2 night in July and we all loved it!!! It has a one bedroom suite that is perfect for families. It was a rainy couple of days so our kids spend lots of time in the pool. They even provide lifeguards for the pool! The valet was great and we really loved everything about the property.

Perfectly located for shopping, the Metro, museums and the Old Town, Le Crystal provides an exceptionally clean, comfortable, and quiet room. The room was large with a comfortable sitting area, a kitchen area, and a ultramodern bathroom.
Beginning with our arrival and greeting by the valet, the staff was gracious and responsive to our every need. We would definitely stay here again when next in Montreal.

What can I say about Le Hôtel Crystal but...magnifique! The hotel is a class act, from its exceptional service, to its wonderful spa, to its cutting-edge security system and technology. Not one thing hasn't been thought of - the 12th floor hot tub and sun deck even has complimentary sunscreen, in case you happen to have forgotten yours. Your key card is required to access any of the floors; you insert your card into the elevator panel, and press your floor's button. If you don't insert your card, the elevator isn't going anywhere. The guest room lights and amenities are all controlled by your key card as well. Once inside, you insert your card into the slot next to the door, and the lights come on. Genius. One thing this hotel doesn't have is those pain in the butt "do not disturb" and "housekeeping please" cards that you hang on the outside of your door. Instead, there's a small control panel next to the key card slot inside the room. If you want housekeeping, you press the housekeeping button, and if you don't want to be disturbed, just press the do not disturb button. Corresponding lights come on outside your door.

We stayed in a superior suite for three nights, and I can honestly say that the Crystal exceeded our expectations. The suite was a little small, but that's to be expected in downtown Montreal. If I had to fault the hotel, it would be on two fronts: the service, while impeccable and attentive, can be a little pretentious. Secondly, if you need ice, you must call down to the front desk and have some sent up. I thought this would be a hassle, but when we called for ice on two separate occasions, it was delivered in under two minutes.

One morning we asked the bellman for a taxi and imagine our surprise when a limousine pulled up. The bellman opened the door to the car for us, and said "today, you ride in style". No meter, and no charge - if I had decided not to pay anything. I asked the driver when we arrived at our destination what the charge was, and he said "anything you feel like paying, madame". Wow, what a GREAT way to start the day.

Our suite had a small fridge and a microwave, espresso machine with complimentary coffee, sugar and creamer, a kettle to make tea and, of course, complimentary tea. The only thing missing was cutlery and dishes - which I think was simply an oversight. I asked the front desk on our way out if they could leave us two forks, one knife and one spoon, just in case. When we came back to the room later that day, they had stocked the cupboard with a full cutlery set, as well as assorted plates and bowls. Nice. The bathroom was one of the best hotel bathrooms I've ever had the pleasure to use. A separate shower with rainfall shower head on the ceiling, as well as a standard hand-held unit. The large soaker tub also had a hand-held shower attachment, which doesn't happen very often.

The hotel is conveniently located, only a few minutes' walk from the nightlife on Crescent Street and shopping, restaurants and entertainment on rue Sainte-Catherine. The Bell Centre is almost across the street, only one block away on rue De la Montagne, and the metro is one block over from the Bell Centre. All in all, an excellent stay, and we will definitely will stay again. We go to Montreal quite often, and the Crystal has now become our go-to hotel.

Beautiful luxury hotel in a great downtown location close to the Bell Center, shopping on St. Catherines and the Metro. Our room was fantastic. The bathroom was gigantic with both a large tub and walk in shower. The bed was one of the most comfortable we've ever slept in. Service was outstanding and the concierge recommended some great places for dinner (although one of the best dinners we had was in the hotel restaurant La Coupole using a discount on their Facebook page). The rooftop hot tub overlooking the city was a nice bonus. The only problem we encountered was a weak wifi signal in our room (6th floor, back corner of the hotel) that made internet access difficult. Otherwise, a perfect experience. We'd stay here again in a second.

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights, booking what I expected to be one of the nicer hotels in Montreal based on the price and my experience as a seasoned traveler. Bad news first: the rooftop hot tub and pool heavily advertised is indeed pretty nice, except they close it promptly at 10:00. So picture trying to relax in a hot tub with people and wild children cramming in during the time everyone seems to want to go, which is after dinner, and the employee coming out every several minutes prior to 10 to tell you times almost up. The hotel did not provide the usual complimentary items that hotels in its price range, such as the fairmont, would include, such as a bottle of water, toothbrush, or shaving kit. And they were all really expensive when you want to buy one. Finally, if you get the room with the sofa bed, you should check thoroughly for cleanliness as this is often overlooked. Indeed, I found a safety pin and several nasty hairs.
The good news: other than the sofa bed, the rooms were spotless. Hotel employees were consistently friendly, the restaurant was pretty nice. (But also closes at 10pm!). Lobby is nice and has a bunch of NY times available for guests.

Dear Triplet1,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent stay at Hotel Le Crystal.

I appreciated your comments and I will address your various comments. The hot tub and pool are open 15 hours daily, from 07:00 am to 10:00 pm seven days a week. We close the pool and hot tub at 10:00 pm so that parties do not erupt on the terrasse in late hours and so that any probability of late night noise is reduced for other guests. You do not mention in your search for hotels we are the only Five Star Hotel in Montreal who actually has a hot tub, pool and terrasse combination, not to mention such a spectacular view.

I was happy to read that you found your room spotless. I was disappointed to read you found some hair and a safety pin in the sofa bed. As we are the only hotel in Montreal with the Platinum Hygiene Program assuring hygienically optimized suites, we will certainly examine the sofa bed cleaning process more closely.

You mention that things like bottled water, tooth brush kits and shaving kits are not free versus brand properties. Bottled water is in fact free as is coffee and tea in both the business center and swimming pool areas. No other hotel in Montreal such access to complimentary water, coffee and tea. You mention that our toothbrush and shaving kits really expensive at 4.95 each offered in the convenience of your suite. I believe the price is correct and the access convenient. You did not mention that our wifi is complimentary. At brand hotel you mentioned wifi is in fact a charge. Our complimentary services and amenities of water, coffee, tea, wifi, pool, spa, gym, terrasses, in-room toiletries and fresh fruit at reception exceed most if not all of our competitive properties.

I appreciate again your feedback. I trust my comments aid in identifying the facts of our services and we hope you will discover these services in the future.

Best regards,

Geoff Allan

My husband was here on business and I was lucky enough to tag along. We had a suite which was very clean, modern and comfortable. The hotel staff were extremely helpful from getting our bags out of the cab to allowing us to check in at 7am in the morning when our flight arrived.

The bathrooms are gorgeous, bright and spacious. It had a fantastic tub and an really great glass shower with *2* different types of shower heads in it. My husband had business in the restaurant and the hotel was very accommodating at booking him a private room and ordering them in lunch. I really like how technologically advanced the hotel is with just being able to push a button for Do Not Disturb instead of hanging out the sign.

The hotel is very central and very close to downtown shopping and Bell Center. We were able to walk to almost every where we wanted to go.

The hotel is lovely. The only draw backs would be that there is a lot of construction next door to the hotel. Our room looked out over the construction and it was quite noisy. Also the 2 days we were there it was extremely hot and the hotel room seemed unable to get any cold water to come out of the taps. I had gone to the gym and for the life of me after letting all the taps run only luke warm water would come out. Also they do not have ice machines available so you have to call down for ice. They were very prompt in bringing it up but it just seems like more work asking for it than getting it yourself.

All in all we had a lovely stay and would definitely go back.
