“Great rooms, rude staff, lack of follow-up to concerns...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2012

As a point of disclosure, I often stay at Sheraton Hotels as my business travel "pick". I find the rooms clean, parking easy, and staff agreeable and friendly.

The Sheraton Laval was nearby an event I was hosting as a part of my job, so it was a natural choice to stay here. Many of the folks I was working with also decided to stay here. I was impressed at the fact that although there was a Tim Horton's conference on downstairs, the hotel was quiet and felt not so busy as to be unwelcoming. The Laval Sheraton's rooms are a good size and there it lots of parking outside (in the middle of a mall parking lot). Also, because of it's location, there's great access to the mall next door.

The problem with the hotel boils down to staff...
> The Check-in - It took over 25 minutes to check in. When I was finally called to the desk (after standing in line, despite having status with their rewards program), the greeter spent more time on the phone than she did talking to me. She also seemed put out by the fact that I wanted to converse in English rather than French (I speak some French, just not enough to make things go smoothly). I asked for a manager to call my room to discuss... never got a call - even after asking again the next day.

> The room - A great room, but the towels were DIRTY with a long blond hair dangling over the toilet from the towels above (my head is kept shaved, so definietly not mine). I left a note for the house staff to replace all the towels -- unfortunately, the replacements never happened. Only the one clean towel that I used was replaced... This really begs the question - what happens when guests leave the hotel? Do only a select # of towels get changed?

> Internet - The hotel charged $12/day for Internet! This is shocking given that most hotels no longer charge and the business focus of the hotel...

Bottom line - lots of other hotels in the area. I can make due with a less than impressive room if staff are excellent... I can NOT make due with a good room if the staff are less than accomodating.

Room Tip: The bar downstairs is a great place to relax and have a bite. HUGE portions (except the pizza) and...

My opinion is that Sheraton Hotels are pretty "plain vanilla" as business hotels go. The Sheraton Laval hotel fits perfectly in line. The hotel lobby is pretty spacious and clean, but somewhat dated. The staff is quite friendly and efficient. Check-in was very fast. The hallway to the room was unremarkable. The carpet was clean and the doors had some small dings. Not too bad. The room was a pretty standard hotel room; It had a king bed, business desk, flat screen TV and standard bathroom. The bed was comfortable and the sheets and covers looked clean. The entire room was quite clean, including the carpet. The heating/airconditioning system is probably the biggest drawback. When it goes on, there is no way to ignore it. It is quite loud. There were 16 other people in the group at the hotel and everyone commented on that. So, if you are a light sleeper, beware.

The breakfast buffet was pretty standard and as usual, relatively expensive. The food is unremarkably average. If any detraction about it is that they only serve a single 6 oz glass of orange juice. Want more? It'll cost you.

The hotel is right next to a huge and upscale mall Carrefour Laval. If you like shopping, it is very nice. There are your upscale American stores but also some very nice and upscale Canadian stores.

All in all, it's an OK hotel. If they spruced up the lobby and replaced the heating/cooling units in the rooms, I might rate it as "very good".

Room Tip: Elevators are in the center of the floors, so pick a room towards the end of the hallways.

First time at this Sheraton. I had a suite and it had an amazing!!! bathroom. Very clean room and lobby. My only complaint was the noise. A lot going on that night and loud "coming and going" til the wee hours - doors slamming. I realize that's not their problem, but perhaps a little better soundproofing. It's an isolated location, so without a car, you are limited to just 2 or 3 restaurants in the mall across the street. I chose to eat in their bar / restaurant and it was surprisingly good! Much better than typical hotel food. Staff could not have been nicer. I recommend this place if you're in the area and have a vehicle.

Room Tip: Executive floor is on the 2nd floor, not the top floor.

This is a pretty standard, older type Sheraton. Staff are professional, rooms are clean and comfortable and the thing that rates this hotel above average is the shopping mall located on the same parking lot.

We stayed at the Laval Sheraton for one night. It was very comfortable, good swimming pool area, free parking and next to a large mall. Only downside was it was Saturday night and we were there with a large group of kids[for a gym meet] and the only food was a buffet-for $34/ adult and $23 for kids and nothing else and it did not look like the food was geared towards kids so after a long day we had to go out of the hotel to eat. It was one of the hotels which the gym used and there was A LOT of kids there-it seemed like bad planning by restaurant management
