“Most excellently kept secret”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

It's good that the place is small and not that well known because locals like us can still get a table relatively easily. In short, this place is among the best ones in Québec City for discerning foodies who don't care for decor and chairs. We've steadily patronized it since its opening 5 years ago, and we're still amazed by the unfailing commitment and intelligence of the staff, the range of privately imported organic and biodynamic wines we never see anywhere else, and the sheer fun of dish presentation. I'll say this in all honesty: we're just back from yet again a few days in New York where we've tried great places; we thanked God for having a gem like Le Moine Échanson two blocks away from home. Please don't tell anyone.

“Worth the effort to find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

We wanted to eat at a locals only place, far from the tourists. We did our research and ended up here. What a great little place. Food is eclectic with French influences. Presentation is very creative, i.e. salad in a tall glass and paper-baked fish inside a clay container. Our server spoke little English and our French is weak so we had a bit of a communication challenge but the food more than made up for it. If you're ever in Quebec, look this place up.

“A lot of fun with great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

The atmosphere of this place was the best part, locals keep rolling in the front door, and the waitstaff circle with more and more bottles of wine. The food is different, but really delicious. We had salted cod bites and an apple/ricotta tart to start, and then lamb tagine and blood pudding as our entrees. The food was 4 starts, but the evening was 5. I'd also make a reservation in advance.

“Disappointing, but a nice atmosphere”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013 via mobile

We went to this restaurant with four people (three of them from France) as it looked like a good place for dinner. It was crowded and French people love wine, so it seemed like a good match.

To be frank: the wine was absolutely sub-par, we even had a rose that smelled like cat-pee.

The food itself was literally tasteless, no seasoning at all (no salt and pepper on the table either) and very small portions (for the price).

The only thing I can imagine why this restaurant has so many positive reviews, is that it must mainly be visited by Canadians. Maybe in their experience it's good food and wine, but certainly not to European standards.

Very disappointing overall.

“Charming and cozy with a passionate staff.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013 via mobile

We ate here last night and had such a delightful meal. The minute we walked in we felt very comfortable. The servers clearly know so much about the food and wine offerings and their passion shines through. Delicious and inventive!
