“Better Places to Stay”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2011

We were staying in Charlottetown for a conference, and came across the PEI Tourism conference, where this hotel was recommended to us. I am not sure why it was recommended - we had booked 14 nights and stayed 1!!

It has great potential - but feels and looks like no one cares about it. As mentioned in other posts - totally indifferent staff who could barely lift their head and no customer service at all. If I owned a hotel and someone cancelled a 14 night stay afer 1 night - I would want to know why - we were never even asked. In our case, it wasn't only the housekeeping (which was lacking) - we couldn't turn down the heat (which staff didn't care about) and had to open the window - nice brisk breeze comes in the front rooms in March! And in order to cool the room down, the drapes had to be open - and there is great lighting that shines right in the rooms at night.

They need to hire some housekeepers and so some cleaning (including the mold in the bathroom). If the staff did not turn you off (perhaps a greeting or an offer to help?) We came in late (about 10 pm), dead quiet - night clerk didn't even offer to help us up with our bags (btw - no elevator) or even hold the door when he was less than 3 ft away.

Would not stay there again - nor will I recommend it to others who come into our Visitor Centre looking for suggestions.

From the desk of Greta Pike, General Manager

Thank you for taking the time to make us aware of your concerns during your stay at the Loyalist Lakeview Resort. We are truly sorry to hear that your experience within our hotel was so disappointing. You are absolutely correct and it may look like nobody cares! However, Lakeview Management Incorporated and we, the Loyalist staff, do care. We are now in the process of updating our property! On our East Wing, we have just completed nine beautiful condos.
We are now in the process of selling these condos. On April 1st, we will be starting renovations on the outside of our property, new windows, new siding and a new roof. We will also be doing upgrades in our guestrooms and convention centre. We hope that you will consider visiting our property once again. I am confident that you will be very surprised, as we will be the place to stay, once again, on Prince Edward Island. If you should be in the Summerside area, please feel free to drop by and I will take you on a tour of the Loyalist Lakeview Resort.

first time on pei, so didn't know the area. pulled in late after a long drive and were hungry. saw that the hotel had a restaurant so decided to stay. the front desk staff mentioned that the air conditioning was not working all the time, turned out not to be working at all. there were no amentities for the price of this hotel, not even a coffee maker in the room which they mention in their flyer. they don't even offer a free continental breakfast, which even smaller places we found later did. the swimming pool was a joke. the towels were so worn they were torn. the condition of the hotel is horrible, i would be embarrassed to work there. the waitress in the restaurant was awful, i ordered a halibut meal and got haddock with mushrooms. definitely look for other places, we found adorable cottages all over the island with more room and far less expensive.

Stayed here for 3 nights with a friend and her daughter. The hotel is nice but not as good as the pictures on the web would lead you to believe. The room we had was fairly spacious and overall was satisfactory but could use some improvement. Beds were fairly comfortable so got a good night's sleep.

The pool is small and very cold - too cold for either of us adults to swim in. The sauna was awful -old, dirty and the inner walls were carved up with people's initials. It should either be completely replaced or removed altogether.

The one thing that really stood out about this hotel is the restaurant. We had a fantastic meal there and it was a definate highlight of our stay. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced - highly recommend it.

The location of this hotel is really great but not all rooms have a great view unless you're on an upper floor facing the water. It is located across the street from Spinnakers Landing which is a nice little spot for shopping and some entertainment during the evening in the summer.

Overall, it was pretty good value for the money but really needs a facelift.

I will keep it short. Basically I visited 6-7 hotels/motels and stayed at 3 of them. I started with two nights at the quality inn in summerside when my back started hurting from the beds. The service was wonderful but sorry, the rooms were stuffy and the beds terrible. I quickly moved over to the Loyalist and was immediatley relieved. A beautiful room and it felt clean as soon as I walked in. The room service was quick and the food was fantastic. I had to stay one more night than originially intended but all the rooms were booked. I took a drive visited some of the other hotels in summerside, no good trust me! Then I drove across to charlottetown and found nothing that great. The two best choices were the delta at 225$ ???ludacris, then the Rod Hotel at 159$ corporate rate. Trust me, I am not going back to the Rod hotel. I turned on the faucet to take a shower, and brown water met my hands for a few minutes. Then although the water looked clear, it kept changing temperature. Not a great start to your day. Terrible standards.! Loyalist even if you're days are in charlottetown!

It is a nice hotel but I find it is way overpriced.

I will only stay here if there are no local motels available due to the very high price tag that come with the stay.
The staff are great, and the rooms are just okay but not for the price.

I must also add that the staff are extremely honest and that is very impressive, you know if you leave something behind, you are going to get it back

This used to be a crown jewel of a hotel to stay in before it was sold..
Now it is a great old building with no one that cares about it, totally indifferent staff who could barely lift their head and no customer service at all .. they need to hire some housekeepers and so some cleaning. if the staff did not turn you off then the dated look and unrepair of this hotel would, the former owners must be sick to see this place go to pot like this.I saw so much mold I was sure that we would be sick
Would not stay there again

My wife and I booked our Wedding Reception at this property and as a result got a free night in the honeymoon suite. Being from Summerside I had a good idea of what we were getting into and percieved it as the best gig in town. it lived up to this billing as the people all went the extra mile for us. Terry was a stand up fellow and never disappointed. The facilities were excellent and served our purpose. After staying in the honeymoon suite and recieving excellent service from all (front desk to reception server to chef, literally everyone deserves credit) we decided to stay two more nights in a regular room. This was handled professionally and the only complaint we had is that the maids seemed to be extra noisy during one of the mornings. Other than that the hotel was good, we took breakfast at the restaurant each morning which was great. Summerside offers many options to eat, but not much diversity. You can't go wrong eating in here. Only tip is too watch out for the taxes, PEI has high taxes and even Summerside has a 'hotel' tax or something. Base prices are good, just know what your getting into with taxes, living in Alberta now, this caused us a mild surprise.

  • Disliked — hallway noise made by the maids
