The shipbuilding musuem at Green Park does a good job in explaining the trade. I would certainly skip the outdated and dull introductory films (one is 20 mins, the other 1 hour). The real gem is the Yeo house though. The house was owned by a local wealthy shipbuilder and is completely restored to its Victorian glory. The home is huge, and there are costumed guides there to show you how life was in the Victorian era, generally for women. They offer demonstrations on quilting, baking, and spinning.
