“Worth the drive.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2012

The site is not located in Charlottetown, but is a short drive south of the city . There are trails to walk with monuments or information boards to tell the story of this site. The staff are in the building and are well informed. There are bathroom facilities.

“Very quiet and scenic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2012

Beatiful views of at the Charlottetown harbour and Northumberland Strait. Very quiet, lots of hiking traiils. Trails were easy to walk in. Lots of information on the history of Port-la-Joye Fort Amherst. Informative plaques. Well worth the trip. The informative centre was closed, not certain if it was the time we were there or under construction. There are picnic tables there, quite beautiful.

“Great place for a hike”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2012

We stopped here for an afternoon, hiked around for a couple of hours, lots of great trails - the crushed gravel type, very easy to walk on and wide. Great views over the water, little patches of woods and lots of historical information plaques to read up on the history of the area. Well worth the trip - the info centre area wasn't open yet for the season but even without it, it was a great stop.

“Scenic and quiet... true PEI”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2012

A terrific photo op! Great views of Charlottetown harbour and the Northumberland Strait. Time your visit right and see the cruise ships pass by seemingly within arm's reach. (Ship arrival and departure times are posted in the local paper.) Gentle walking trails and some fine beach-combing at low tide. The interpretive centre doesn't offer much and is usually closed or under construction, but the grounds and trails are well maintained, complete with plaques providing interesting history and maps. The mounding that remains from the fort provides an excellent, natural play area for kids. Bring a picnic -- or a kite if it's windy -- and enjoy a beautiful PEI day.
