We redeemed 3 nights stay at this hotel through Aeroplan points. This was the only hotel Aeroplan has in Charlottetown so despite the horrible reviews here, we took it. The location was excellent - within walking distant to historic Great George St, Art Center, Provincial House, shops, restaurant etc. Our room was in the main building, renovated with a LCD TV, 2 double beds and was very spacious - could easily fit another 2 beds - wondered why they did not put in 2 queen beds instead. There were still signs of the old era in the room like fittings, plugs. The hallways were also renovated with new carpets. The washroom was also renovated but retained a painted old door and old fixture. The only window in the room faced the inside of the gym which means we have to have the curtain closed at all times. The interior lighting was horrible so the room felt dingy and there was a mild smell that came from the vent (like smoking smell) in the mornings. While in the lobby, another family was complaining about a horrible smell and the staff sent in a dehumidifier to their room. There were free coffee/tea in our room but no complimentary bottled water. You have to get that from the vending machine in the basement hallway. The hotel's internet is not wireless although the restaurant in the basement (where breakfast was served) boast wireless internet connection. In the room, we were given a wire to use but it did not work. Staff at front desk told all guests the same thing - they are not computer expert etc, call 1-800 # but it was useless. We used the hotel's public computer in the lobby to check emails. Guests can also print stuff using that public computer for free. The lobby is small, only has a couple chairs. Indoor heated pool was ok and has beautifully renovated washrooms complete with lockers/showers but NO soap/shampoo provided!! The hot tub was out of order. Breakfast was ok except the rotating toaster did not brown stuff so that caused a long line of people using the regular 4-slice toaster. Tracey and another guy staff (did not get his name) at front desk were very helpful with maps, suggestions of places/restaurants/theatre/golf to us and other guests. The bald guy in the front desk was hopeless and talked so loud like he is purposefully brushing you off - he always respond with "I am not from around here" etc even when we ask off the most simple attraction like famous Lighthouse in East Point. Would have appreciated it if he could have just pointed out where it was in the map - not expecting him to be a tour guide or anything. As hotel front desk staff, one is expected to at least be oriented to the touristy surroundings! After driving around, we were very glad that we made the choice to stay in this hotel because of the location. In other places, you would have to drive everywhere and we only had one car with us and some wanted to go golfing early morning while others wanted to sleep in and walk the historic town - so the location was perfect. We walked to the Art Center (about 10 mins) to see the Anne of Green Gable play. Its very livable but would be great if internet works and all staff were more helpful/pleasant & make full use of the pool washrooms by putting some shampoo soap in the pool washroom.
