“Another Nice Harrah's Property”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2007

My partner Chris and I recently went to visit our parents who live in the Detroit area, so being Diamond Members with Harrah's we stayed at Casino Windsor for 3 nights. Harrah's continues to be so good to us and they gave us all 3 nights comped.

The Hotel and Casino are nice, but I think the hotel rooms need some work. The linens are a bit out dated and need to be thrown out. The view from our 6th floor room though was really nice. It was the best view of the Detroit City skyline that I have ever seen.

The Casino was really nice and had alot of games to choose from. Note, smoking is not allowed in any indoor establishment like casino's, so you have to go outside. This makes it nice for those who don't smoke, but not so good for those who do.
It is the best of both worlds.

I did visit the pool area while I was there. The pool is enclosed and has a nice view of Detroit. It also has a big hot tub and full changing rooms with lockers.

Note of Caution... They tell you that crossing the border is easy as long as you have your birth certificate or passport. That is half way true. It is easy crossing into Canada, but the U.S. Customs are scarry. We were stopped and questioned for 15 minutes just because we had Georgia liscence plates on our car.

Overall it was nice place. I think it will be even nicer when it become Ceasers Canada next year.

“Poor Man's Vegas”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2007

As a member of the Total Rewards Club that Harrah's casinos promote, I spent two complimentary nights at Casino Windsor recently to check out how it compared to other Harrahs properties. The hotel room I rceived was a cut above average with a comfortable bed and a flat screen TV. The bathroom was a good size with a seperate tub and shower cabin and decent toiletries. The casino itself is a mish-mash of no particular styles, however it is gloriously smoke free. The machines however are ridiculously tight and seem to have disabled feature options and lower paybacks compared to their Vegas counterparts and the table games such as Blackjack are to be avoided as they have terrible odds. I tried only one of the hotel's restaurants, the Artists Cafe, that serves as the glorified coffee shop but is nicely enough appointed but the food is indifferently bland and fairly expensive. There is also a buffet and a sports bar that serves food but neither appealed to me. I looked in at Nero's, the casino's steakhouse which boasts a ridiculously expensive and disappointingly uninspiring menu. At 7.30pm on a saturday I counted six people dining there. They need to re-think this. This ain't Vegas, It's Windsor folks! One thing I did find out however, is that Windsor is home to some of the best Italian restaurants in the country. Folks in Michigan drive in from up to an hour to cross the border to sample them. I took a five minute cab ride from the hotel to Erie St where they are all bunched together and had a fantastic meal at a delightfully welcoming little family run place called Calabrisella. The Antipasto appetizer was sensational, as was the Vitello Funghi (exquisitely tender veal with mushrooms) with a delicious pasta with meat sauce on the side. The salad with house dressing was amazing and with a half a litre of excellent wine to wash it all down, the bill came to a very reasonable $42.00 Cdn including taxes and before tip. As a comparison the lamb chops alone on the menu at Nero's were priced at $48.00! More than the cost of my entire meal at Calabrisella!
Casino Windsor is fine for a one or two night getaway provided you have other things to occupy you in the area (such as a shopping spree in Michigan) but otherwise it is a very middle of the road experience with little resemblance to a Vegas or even an Atlantic City experience to recommend it.

“Almost Caesar's”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2007

Just returned from a quick 1 night trip to Casino Windsor. They will become a Caesar's in June, and they have done a LOT of work on the casino floor. The casino looks very nice, much more Vegas quality. New carpet, and lighting with a central table pit. They have added a very nice martini bar off the hotel lobby, with an elevated stage for bands, that play on the weekend. Also new is a really nice sportsbook/bar, with 3 9 foot screens for events. Slots were a bit on the tight side, but gave you enough to keep playing as a rule. The casino is non-smoking, but their are several outdoor smoking areas conveniently located. You can still book a smoking room. I didn't ask if any of the rooms have been renovated, but ours had not. The rooms are fine, and the bathroom continues to be their best feature. They have upgraded to some really nice bath towels and toiletries. Our only meal was in the buffet, which was fine. Unfortunately, I am a smoker, so I am not sure that I will return.

“Fun in Windsor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2006

Truthfully I have never been to another Casino to compare, but I find Casino Windsor to be great. Its clean and has some interesting cover bands, plus every casino game you could imagine. Its loud of course, but what Casino is not. Try the Buffet, its absolutly delicious!

Its located right downtown near the river. Downtown Windsor feels very safe and well lit and theres lots to do downtown.

Windsor is worth the trip

“Great Local Get Away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2006

Casino Windsor is a quick, easy get away for people in surrounding Metropolitan Detroit. The hotel is clean, rooms are spacious and updated. Restaurant and hotel services were quick and efficient. We stayed an overnight using one of their package deals and received a river view room, wine and cheese upon check in and a breakfast delivered by room service. The late checkout (4 PM) was terrific. This allowed us to sleep in, use the spa, salon and pool and still have some time to gamble in the afternoon. Casino workers were friendly and personable. Remember to bring a birth certificate or passport to cross the tunnel or bridge - police officials do not like to accept just a drivers license.
