I have stayed at this hotel 3 times. The first time was great. The second time the room was a little dirty but overall it was OK. This time - the third, will be my last.
I booked a room in the forum tower with view of detroit skyline, king bed and non smoking. When I arrived they informed me they had a smoking with 2 queens facing the river. Gee cold you get anything else wrong? So I straightened them out and they had no rooms of the type I booked in the Forum tower. Fine, they put us in the Augustus tower. All is good right? Wrong. We get to our room and its not a view of Detorit. Its a "river" view. Which means you look out at Windsor and peek around the corner at the detroit river. Also, the room semlled like dirty socks - very heavy. To top it off the towels in the bathroom were thrown over the rack - they looked used. The weekend had been busy for them with some gay pride event. I guess cleaning up afterwards wasnt a top priority.
I called the front desk to straighten this out. I had a meeting in 5 minutes and this was taking way to much time to checkin. They magically found the room type I originally booked in the forum tower. They said a bellman would be up immediately to move us. We waited 10 minutes. Finally we simply left and ran into the bellman in the elevator. I asked him if the new room was a king looking aat Detroit. He said he didnt know. He took us to the concierge to ask. We waited for 5 minutes while the concierge rudely argues with a woman who also got the wrong room type. I had no more time and stormed off telling the bellman I'll look myself. Fortunately whe I arrived at the new room it was indeed what I had booked. Why couldnt they have given me this room at first? Why did I have to fight for it? At this point I was late by 20 minutes for my appointment. The Casino really blew it.
There is a reason I prefer the forum tower. Its closer to the parkade and restaurant in the morning for breakfast. However that restaurant was closed for breakfast. They changed things so you have to go to the much smaller cafe in the Augustus tower for breakfast.
The delay here was even worse than check in. We were seated fast enough but waited about 10 minutes for a waitress. When she arrived she was a sour faced older woman with zero manners. We placed out order and waited. I allowed one hour for a leisurely breakfast and drivee to my first appointment that day. After waiting 20 minutes I asked the sour waitress if she could check out order. 10 minutes later she came back and said it would be one minute. 30 minutes had elapsed and it looked like Ceasars would make me late again. Finally about 5 more minutes later breakfast arrived. Just in time to take 5 mintues eating and get out. I asked her to please bring our check so we could clear up as we needed to be somewhere. 5 minutes the check comes. I put the money down. She picks it up a few minutes later and says "i'll bring your change". The change never came. It was only $1.35 in change but she should still bring it. So we just left and that $1.35 was the only tip she was getting. Likely she knew that and thats the only way she gets tips with her sour attitude. THis woman had to be 60. If you are not happy waiting table at 60 do something else. You've had plenty of time to set your life path.
Needless to say I didnt drop a dime in the Casino this trip. Previous trips I likes to walk the riverwalk outside than play the games a bit in the evening. The hotel made such a bad impression I didnt want to hang around the property. I gave up zero dollars to them.
I know the place has been slow for several months. Its likely cost cutting measures have been put into place. Yet the Casino was rather busy this time. What I derived from all this was if the Casino is dead and staff have nothing else to do you'll be OK. Book at a time when its at all busy and watch out!
The final room we got was also a little dirty compared to the first stay. I must have lucked out that time.
