“Very good, in a city with problems”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2010

We made a trip to Windsor over the Labour Day weekend and we’ve been quite satisfied with this hotel.
We had a king suite (suite as in a very large room), with river view (and an unexpected fireworks show Saturday night).
The hotel is “downtown”, this makes the parking less convenient (details in previous reviews; just a quick walk if you don’t mind going outdoors) and the non-river views less spectacular (many closed/abandoned shops in walking distance).
The buffet breakfast is OK, one day it was understaffed though (and, sadly, the restaurant on evenings looked overstaffed). The restaurant is closed Sun-Mon evenings but there is a bar menu with enough selections to enjoy a dinner there.
Overall this still is a very good hotel, but the city is in an economic slump and the revival is probably dependent on Detroit’s fortune (even the Windsor casino complex - maybe 600 metres away from Hilton - is operating now with 3,200 employees from 5,000 at its top).
I wish them well but it won’t be easy.

Pros: Well-designed hotel with windows angling outwards to the west, meaning virtually every room - regardless of being on the north or south side - will have an impressive view of the Detroit skyline beyond the river and small park below. Comfortable bed. A/C unit worked well. Room was clean, slightly larger than the standard offering and had a spacious bathroom. Check-in and check-out were smooth. Just a 5-minute drive to Detroit. Hotel was very quiet. Nice walk along the water to the Casino. Competitive rates.

Cons: Very odd parking situation. $11/day garage is behind the hotel and serves the Radisson as well, and one is instructed to take the stairs to a ramp on the second floor walkway over the street, through several doors and a maze, down an extremely slow elevator, and through winding hallways to the lobby. With a key card, one can skip all of this with the small back door behind the hotel. Be sure to have the hotel stamp the parking card upon check-in. Like much of the hotel, the rooms are dated, and I found them rather dark. Arriving on a Sunday, as others have noted, hardly anything was open in the evening.

Overall, a pleasant stay.

We stayed here on the final part of our mammoth road trip.

The hotel, I think, has seen better days. We used our Hilton hHonors points for the stay and got an upgrade to one bedroom suite. The room size was huge and had a greta view of the river and the Detroit skyline. the room did smell funky though, like the A/C had not been cleaned in ten years.

The bed was really comfy and the kids slept on a queen size pull out couch/bed.

The swimming pool was large enough, but the water was pretty cold. The hotel had a restaurant, but it was closed on the night we were there.

The breakfast buffet was very dissapointing and I would not have paid $17 dollars for it (we got a free breakfast with my HHonors membership). It seemed under-staffed and the selection on the buffet was pretty poor, not even Canadian bacon in Canada!!

Overall, the hotel just seems like it is needs a general facelift and staff with a more jazzy attitude, they were all a bit laid back and lacklustre. It seems like a convention hotel without a convention centre and caters I think to the weekend gambling crowd coming across from the USA.

Also, the immediate area around the hotel seemed very run-down and it is right next to the bus station, which is never a pleasure.

One major issue is the parking. The parking lot is behind the hotel and it takes ages to get to the hotel from it. Rate is not bad though.

I may stay here again if in Windsor, but I would probably try out other hotels first.

Thank you for your response and comments. We appreciate and value each one of them. Hilton Windsor has all its rooms with the beautiful view of detroit river and spactular detroit skyline. Our breakfast buffet comes with the health choice of options for each one of our guests.

Hilton Windsor offers paid valet parking service for the convience of our guests. Should anyone requires any additional information, please contact conciarge or front desk.

The bus stand just behind the hotel offers a link to various parts of the city and also TUNNEL BUS is operated from this station, which is a very convient way to travel across the border to Detroit.

We do look forward to welcome you back as our returned guests and am sure that will offer you a satisfying experiences with the benifits of staying at the Hilton Windsor.

Went to Windsor for the Russell Peters show and stayed at the Hilton have to say that I was not impressed in anyway. Even though I requested a King bed I ended up getting a a Queen, was not impressed. The bed it self was no way close to firm and felt like one of those mattresses you could buy from Sleep Country for 150.00! I also asked for a smoking room and did receive one, but it had no windows that opened!! A smoking room with no windows that open?? Does that even make sense?

I will say that the front desk staff were friendly and easy to deal with, but the hotel it self old and it shows.

This hotel is older, but still functional. Even though we were in a room by the elevator we didn't hear it at all. The view was awesome and the breakfast buffett was quite good, too. Location is close to restaurants. One downside is the long walk to the parking garage; it could be inconvenient for a long stay.

You can't beat the views from the Hilton Windsor across the river. That was the best part of the stay. The rooms were ok - nothing fancy. I was going to an early morning meeting, so ordered room service. Instead of it coming within 15 minutes like I was promised, it took 1 hour and 15 minutes. When it did arrive, there was no cutlery or coffee. The hotel ended up giving me breakfast for free, which was a nice gesture. Overall the hotel was just ok, nothing special, and nothing to make me want to come back to it in a hurry.
