“There is something special about this hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2012

Overall, it was an impressive and unforgettable experience for us. We traveled here for The View and we got it. Initially we had booked King Bed Studio Riverview Room and upgraded it to King Junior Suite Panoramic Riverview for $20. I believe it was a right decision as this room was almost twice as big as the first one. I assume the first room might have been a bit tiny. Anyway, we got a spacious room with spectacular panoramic view on Detroit. Beds and linen were exceptional, the furniture a little bit worn, but still in a good shape. There was one glass missing on a coffee table that was delivered quickly upon our phone call. For a 4-star hotel the bathroom was too simple and basic. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful.

There is one thing I'd like to mention in this review. Close to Hilton there is a huge residential and accommodation complex called Caesar. It also includes a brand new hotel. But I am not sure if even half of its rooms are comparable to Hilton in terms of views. If you want to get that feel of an old hotel, perhaps, a bit dated (especially elevators), with a wooden lobby and furniture - Hilton is a place to go for you. But at the same time it might seem too quiet as there is not much movement in the hotel (and other hotels nearby). Since many guests stay in Caesar now, Hilton seems to be empty and today it is definitely not the best times for this hotel. Next to the Hilton there was a Radisson Hotel which was recently sold and virtually empty now (that is how you think at its windows at night).

My husband and I went to the Windsor Hilton for a quick overnight get-away in March. The view from our room was quite beautiful, we could see Joe Louis Arena across the Detroit River and the city lights of Detroit were something to see. We used the pool and the hot tub before going out for the evening and although the space was nice, the area could use some renovation. The jets on the hot tub didn't all seem to work and the timer would turn off after about 5 minutes, so we had to keep getting out to reset it. We went to the casino for the evening and it was nice that there was a shuttle that ran between the area hotels and the casino that picked up every half hour before midnight and every hour after that until 3 a.m. The bed was comfortable and we had a nice stay. It was a fairly affordable option if you are planning a night out, but not up what I would normally consider 'The Hilton" standards.

Stayed one night while in town. Enjoyed a great view of Detroit on an upper floor. Parking was a bit of a pain as it was across the street and indoor access to hotel was like walking through a maze of hallways. The room was very spacious and clean, and the beds were so comfortable! Took a swim in the pool located on the third floor again with great views!
Would stay there again for sure.

Room Tip: Take a higher floor as the views will not dissapoint!

This is a basic hotel with a very convenient location, and a great view of the lake and the Detroit skyline. The rooms are clean, and the service is good. The front desk manager Rosie was especially helpful in dealing with a reservation made through American Express Travel that was made for the wrong date and was not refundable. She made an exception and changed the night for us, without any hassle. I have stayed here 3 times with my family and they are very accommodating. The location is very convenient (just across the border and blocks away from the downtown), and the King size bed was extremely comfortable!

Room Tip: Get one of the corner rooms with a view of the lake

We checked in February 13th, 2012. The purpose of our stay was for my father's funeral.
There was no compassion showed to us, we had stayed at ceasar's the night before, and the manager on duty at ceasar's had quoted us a reservation rate(he made the reservation for us) of $119.00/night. The condition of the desk in the room was below standards, the bathtub had flakes of enamel popping off, was not safe to take a bath or shower in it, as I cut my toe on it.
Now, on to the gauging of pocket books, this is the FIRST HOTEL I have ever stayed at that charges for local calls. Like really? $1.07 plus tax for a local call is totally ridiculous, it's cheaper to use a payphone in the lobby. Pretty sad if you consider it cost us 60.00 more to stay at the hilton then it did at Ceasar's the night before. both on a so called funeral rate.

The hotel was alright, although we had money stolen for 3 of our rooms. I was traveling with a bunch of my friends and we had 4 rooms there. When we woke up the next morning, a total of 500 dollars in cash was stolen from our rooms. We could only imagine that a person with a keycard that could have access all the different rooms was involved. At the hilton, we would have never imagined something like this happening. We complained to the front desk the next morning but they were extremely unhelpful.

If you are planning to stay here, please think twice.

We only stayed in this hotel for one night, as we were in Windsor to see a show at Caesars. There was a bit of confusion during the telephone reservation process as to which room was newly renovated and which had a river view, but in the end the room I booked and an absolutely impeccable view. All staff were friendly and professional and all requests I had were dealt with quickly and efficiently. The pool/hot tub area was great - extremely clean and bright. The second floor restaurant has a nice breakfast buffet, but somewhat overpriced for what was there (a discounted rate for guests would be a nice bonus). Parking is behind the hotel in a separate building but is easily accessible and in and out privileges are great. The walk to Caesars is about 5 to 10 minutes so it's a great location if the casino is your destination. Great hotel, I do recommend it!

Room Tip: Get a riverview!
