This review is long overdue. We recently returned to Katsura to celebrate our 31st wedding anniversary in May with our sons. Katsura has been a family favourite since 1980. My first job luncheon took place in the Katsura dining room where I was introduced to my first Japanese food experience and have been hooked every since. Mind you, I have been ordering the same dish for the past 33 years! When I try something I like, I stick with it. As a family, we started going to Katsura when my boys were 5 and 9 years old in 1993. We were there for our first New Years Eve dinner and ordered the' Katsura-Mori' to start(refreshing salad with amazing house dressing) along with the 'Katsura Special' a dish consisting of Shrimp and Veggie Tempura, Yakitori Chicken on skewers and Sirloin Teriyaki along with seasonal veggies and sticky rice. The flavour combinations, the food quality, presentation and service are top notch. It was quite unbelievable to the staff, at that time, that a 5 year old could finish the entire dish. Speaking about staff, I cannot say enough about the Katsura staff. They are highly professional and provide their customers with attentive and excellent service. Some of the staff (Maitre d's Simon/David have been there since the 80's- they have always made us feel welcome and always provide us with a special dessert when we celebrate a special day). We have introduced and taken family members and friends to the wonderful Katsura and have enjoyed years of celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and New Year's Eve dinners dining in their dining room as well as in the traditional Japanese tatami room (room with floating floor). After so many years the servers caught on to us and whenever we go they already know what we will be ordering. My adult sons will always ask for a larger Katsura Mori with their meal and will sometimes add on the tasty tuna and california rolls to start, however, we always end up with the same 'Katursa Special' dish. Although my adult sons have graduated onto experiencing more traditional Japanese cuisine, they always join us for my favourite version of Japanese fair. To this day, friends always ask how we always go and order the same thing, once they try the dish they understand. We hope to continue our Katsura tradition for many years to come. Excellent dining experience.
