Description: DISTRICT is a modern Japanese Bistro located in the heart of the trendy Riverside district of Toronto. DISTRICT blends sleek and sexy design with modern and authentic Japanese cuisine.  The result is a tempting and tantalizing fusion of sophistication and flavour in an elegant yet intimate lounge like setting.     Located on Queen Street East, in the space formerly occupied by Woodgreen Fish & Chips, District is a sleek and modern addition to the up-and-coming Riverside /Leslieville neighbourhood.    Arguably the area’s first ever sophisticated sushi restaurant, DISTRICT is a place to socialize, to linger, to relax and to savour a fresh and flavourful dining experience.

“Expensive pseudo Japanese food”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2012

I dunno. Nice decor but nothing special except the bill. Which was exceptional.

“Really good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2012

Service was great, food was great, and the setup was really good for 3 couples to have a sociable conversation over dinner.

“I want to marry their tuna tataki”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2011

Accidentally stumbled onto this place one lovely summer evening and my life changed. I have since gone in numerous times, tried different things off the menu and had a constantly ridiculously delicious experience. Note that the service is not fast, but it is very friendly and nice. It will take a while to get your food, even when the restaurant is not busy. If you are planning to have a fast dinner, you might reconsider. Note, however that the wait is well worth it, and the place is quite cozy. All the appetizers are amazing (the tuna tartars and tatakis, also, an excellent seaweed salad- everything is seasoned perfectly, and not just drowned in soy). The sushi rolls are delicious and all actually taste different from one another. The food is always extremely fresh and the fish of good quality. Seriously, I have raw tuna all over Toronto and this one is IMO the best one, hands down. Check out their cute garden in the back! We had diner with two drinks (per person) and we each paid about 35$ plus tip.

“A great take on what you expect from Japanese, but with surprises”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2011

District has become a semi-regular destination for my partner and me. It small and intimate, but you don't feel 'shoved in' to a tiny space. It's a great place for an intimate meal, with surroundings that are a little funky... but also not 'trying too hard'.The food is first class, with great presentation, but also prices that are very reasonable... so pretty much a complete package.
I think the standout feature is the use of small twists on traditional sushi and other familiar Japanese dishes. If you are looking for the familiar, with a twist, this is a great Queen Street East destination!
