We've eaten at the Hot House Cafe a few times in the last couple of years and have found the food and service good, with room for improvement in the food area. We've love the area of Front & Church Streets. You are close to St. Lawrence Market (as must see) as well as within walking distance of Lake Ontario boardwalk. On our last visit, both my husband and I ordered pasta; his was the HotHouse Penne Spicy Italian sausage, with roasted red peppers, mushrooms, sundried tomatoes, chili peppers, extra virgin olive oil, in a tomato basil sauce. He found his to be a little bland, but overall good taste. I ordered the Penne alla Sambuca with pancetta bacon, chicken, diced tomatoes, snow peas, red and yellow peppers in a tomato cream Sambuca sauce. Although it was outstanding in flavour, the overcooked penne was disappointing. I should have asked for my pasta al dente even though I had hoped it would have been served as such. (I'm sure they, like alot of restaurants, have pasta pre-cooked which is not what people pay for.) James, our server, was just the right amount of attentive without making us feel rushed. We will definately return and I will, no doubt, order pasta again, but request it be "al dente".
