Food was delicious. What a lovely atmosphere. A great place for either a romantic meal or dinner with friends.

“Decent, but needs refreshing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2012

Had a decent but unremarkable meal here during Summerlicious. Stuffed Eggplant was bland, though the accompanying greens were very good (buttery/salty). Decor could be considered charming, but needs updating/cleaning. Uncomfortable stools and chairs, and everything seems a bit dusty - cleanliness in general seemed subpar from the bar to the bathrooms. This is a largely overlooked genre of food in Toronto, so its a shame that nobody appears to be minding the store.

“Nothing Special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2012

Took my boyfriend here 2 weeks ago expecting just as good of an experience as the first time I went a few years ago - but it wasn't. The room they sat us in was very different than last time, strange and uncomfortable. Other than the calamari, the food was just average. My bf's jambolia was overwhelming, had way too much going on. My chicken was overcooked and very dry. The calamari we got for our appetizer, however, were amazing! One of the best i've ever had. Believe it or not, our waiter was way too attentive. He would stand near the doorway and keep looking at our table. I know he was checking on us, but it was a little awkward because I could see him the whole time. OK food, OK atmosohere, OK service. Nothing worth going back to again.

“Disappointing and overpriced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2012

Hadn't been to Southern Accent in years so thought we would check it out while in the neighbourhood. The menu hasn't changed and place starting to look a little tired. I had one of their specialty cocktails which was supposed to be Southern Comfort, Jack Daniels and fresh juices. Try sickly sweet bar mix. My husband had the oysters and voodoo pasta. Oysters you can't really mess up and pasta, was, well pasta. It seemed to be a cream sauce with curry powder and cayenne. My shrimp appetizer was 5 measly, tiny shrimp, simply cooked in a spicy sauce. I was kind of expecting some jumbo tiger shrimp for the price. Had their special salad, advertised as spinach with grilled asparagus and goat cheese and added blackened chicken. $15 for a handful of spring mix from a cello container, maybe 2 pieces of chopped up asparagus and minimal goat cheese. Waitress kept forgetting to bring second beer for my husband, yet she promised "Next time I'll bring it". Unfortunately wrong kind when it finally arrived. Bill was over $100 for very mediocre food and poor service. There are better places in the city to get Cajun. Try the jambalaya at Hemmingway's!
