“Best Chinese Buffet in the World”

I was in Toronto for a week and was recommended to dine at the Mandarin, really fresh and tasty food, such as huge choice and really helpful and friendly staff. Also nice to talk with Alan Wu and thanks to James Xin for the chopsticks. You need to open a place in London England soon.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2013

One of the best buffet restaurant we have been so far. Food was fresh, service was excellent and the manager Susan gave us an amazing service even though our group was over 180, Will definitely go back during the upcoming holiday season. Thumbs up and keep up the good service. See you soon

“Good place food-wise, but totally terrible organization/administration”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

It's not a bad place to go for a meal, and probably one of the best out there in terms of food quality vs price combination, but completely ridiculously poor organization! They are getting closed in the mid-day hours to change their "lunch" buffet menue to a "dinner" one, but there's no any mention of this fact anywhere! In addition, different restaurants around the city have different times for closing/re-opening their doors: some close at 3 pm and re-open at 4:30, others close at 3:30pm to open again at 5pm, and others might have their own little thing going on in regards to this "menue change break". Simply put, there's no consistency in this respect, which results in ruining you dinner plans and giving you an intention not to go to mandarin ever again. Especially, after being ensured by the staff that this break is the same at all the restaurants around the city. Besides, what's more important than this, there's no any information of such a break per restaurant on mandarin's website! And the restaurant doors as well, at least some of them. Do they expect people to know these kind of things by default or something?! I don't get that.

Moreover, although the English language is not native for me, I kind of shouldn't be mentioning the following, but I simply can't: it's not that uncommon for quite a few mandarin's personnel members to speak so poor English, it requires really a lot of effort to understand what they're saying. Mandarin's HRs should probably be much more close attention to the speaking/comprehension abilities of the candidates before hiring them. Yet another thing I've noticed: apparently there are some (or shall I say "many"?) of the waiter/waitresses do not know the basic etiquette when it comes to take away the dishes. More often than not they tend to sneak your plate from you, -regardless of whether you're done with it or not(!!!), so that you have to stop them. Do this a few times and this starts to feel irritating. Moreover, they stop coming to you anymore, which is a good thing, if so they don't know they should ask for permission to clean any item off the table instead of taking it for granted and making you catching their hand every time, but than again, they do not come to your table to clean obviously the empty dishes - when these dishes are left at the table's corner. Doing so on purpose, obviously. May be this kind of behavior, is normal and acceptable in China and whatever other parts of Asia these staff members are coming from, but it's definitely not so for Europe/North America. Etiquette lessons, mandarin's HR, etiquette lessons!

To summarize: it takes more than just a fair combination of food quality/price to make a truly good restaurant, which makes you wish to keep coming back again. Mandarin is surely not one of them. As to me, I'm never going there again.

Great place to get weight. Nice staff! They don't care about taking dirties plates from your table all the time! The unique thing you have to be aware of is to control yourself!
