“Elegant Dining”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

Enjoyed a memorable dinner at Il Mulino using an incredible Groupon deal for four.
Pasta is definitely their specialty - seafood risotto, lobster linquine and spaghetti bolognese were wonderful. We were disappointed with a couple of the other mains; the grilled sea bass and the veal scallopini with lemon wine sauce lacked flavor and texture. But everything else including the desserts we tried - chocolate molten cake, apple pear strudel and tiramisu were very good.
Service was friendly and inviting although it got very busy on a Saturday evening. This is definitely a restaurant for special occassions when you want to splurge!

“Great Italian Food at Bathurst and Eglinton”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

I have not been here for about 10 years. I hear the place has changed hands a couple of times.

The service was spotty. Great at the beginning but as often happens they forget about you come coffee and dessert time.

It was a Saturday night and the place was packed. You need a reservation. Seems like this is somewhat of a neighborhood restaurant.

The food was very good. I had a 1/2 order of pasta and for a change I cannot complain about the portion size or the quality of the sauce. Had a whole fish for dinner and it was very tasty.

It is a bit on the pricey side but you get value for your money.

“Excellent Italian fare with five star service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

Really fine food and the Host Terry is a gem. Attention to every detail without being overwhelming. The wait staff is thoroughly professional.
One word of caution: if you order the prig fix menu don't you believe that the quantities are so small that you will not overeat. Next time we will order from the menu and share.... Good wine list, fair prices

“Good Service, Boring Food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

The restaurant inside is very nice and elegant and nice enough for business meetings and to celebrate occasions. The staff was friendly and professional although they did push hard to sell their bottled water (highest margin item at the restaurant) and wine list. Their wine list prices are very high with almost nothing under $45-50 and mostly $80-hundreds +.

Unfortunately, the level of food served does not meet up with the ambience and the price. They started off providing a bread that was cut into slices and soaked (I mean soaked) in olive oil and sprinkled with dried rosemary. We only had one slice each give the olive oil dripping off of the entire bread. We had the mussels to start and they were well cooked but the tomato sauce lacked much flavour (ie. was there any wine used?) and there was a huge oil drift left when the mussels were done so. They really like their olive oil here and it makes the meal very heavy early. The risotto was probaby their best dish - it was properly done still firm and good mushroom flavours and finished off with truffle oil. The tomato gnocchi was mushy and the sauce again was boring - I wonder if it was freshly made or made a few days before given the lack of freshness.

For the mains, I had a steak which was perfectly cooked but I seriously doubt the piece of meet was AAA as claimed as it lacked flavour and was pretty tough. The sauce was more typical French finished off with lots of butter. My partner had the branzino which was done on the grill, slightly overcooked. They both came with potatos and a veg.

Desert was the chocolate gelato which was creamy and mid chocolate and the fruit crumble which had very little flavour.

Overall, the meal had decent execution but the flavours lacked any brightness or freshness. Unfortunately (or fortunately) there are alot of better Italian restaurants in Toronto charging a lot less money for much more flavourful and exciting food.

“Delicious food and excellent wait staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013 via mobile

Excellent restaurant with a great staff. I am a repeat customer and tend to bring friends and family along. That being said I find the person taking reservations is a tad rude when stating that he will need the table back in a timely fashion.

Considering my patronage and the prices I would have appreciated a bit of respect not to be essentially told to gobble my food and leave.
