I went to the Shizen spa in Toronto based on a recommendation from my co-worker. I was very disappointed. The spa was very esthetically inviting, but the staff there were not very helpful in explaining where to go to actually get the massage (in another room). The change room did not have enough towels or bathrobes either so I ended up not bothering to take a shower there.
I made the mistake of not asking for an insurance receipt before leaving. I received a receipt from the cashier and in error thought that this was the receipt that I needed to submit to my insurance company. This was after all my first experience getting a massage at a spa although I had told them that I had needed an insurance receipt at the time of booking.
After many numerous phone calls and emails, the issue was still never resolved. My emails were ignored and I could never get a hold of any one there when I called. Although I admit that I had followed up with them about 6 months afterwards to find out which RMT worked on me, they never tried to contact me to resolve the matter.
The massage experience itself was satisfactory and I ended up going back to my RMT who works in an office building with white walls. However she does a better job of getting rid of the kinks in me and I felt more comfortable in that building and room than I did at the spa.
