“Excellent Environment”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

I ate at Guu SakaBar last week and had a wonderful time. They offer the authentic Japanese atmosphere where the whole restaurant greets you as you walk in the door. The food was excellent and decently priced. I'm rather picky when it comes to Japanese food as I did live in Japan for a year but I can say I was impressed here. The sushi dishes featured fresh tasty tuna and classics like karaage were top notch. My only complaint is they brought the wrong dish once and when we ordered another round of food it took a very long time for the food to come. Once you put your initial drink and food order in they seemed to forget about us. Granted, the place was very busy.

“Lively & Happy place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

We went with the kids to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was noisy & busy but we enjoyed thoroughly! Food is great especially the Japanese pancakes and udon were to die for. Will definitely go and try more of their great tapas!

“Great fun but leave the kids at home.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

We love good food, tapas and seafood so this was a perfect choice of restaurant for us. In spite of straining to hear what my companions were saying and rubbing elbows with our fellow diners, we had a great time. Everything that we ordered was super delicious but we only ordered fish and seafood: tuna, salmon, lobster, squid, more tuna... You get the point. Drinks were lovely too including cocktails, beer and sake. We ordered 8 or 9 dishes between the 4 of us plus a combo dessert platter and there was plenty off food to go around with not a morsel left on our plates. The place was lively and loud even on a Wednesday night but it's to be expected and embraced if only for the diverse and creative Japanese food that is a step above from the tradition that Toronto is used to. I am already thinking about visiting Guu in the next few weeks. And that's considering that there is no shortage of great restaurants in the city.

“Guud as per usual”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

Everything was delicious as per usual Guu standards. Nice ambiance. You gotta try the takoyaki. The only disappointment: they no longer have Guud Ale.

“Fair Japanese eats”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

Tried dinner here, upon entering there are 2 sections- one with communal tables and the other the tatami. Place was practically empty, maybe the area or for whatever reason. Ordered the kimchi nabe, ebimanyo, carbonara udon, daikon steak, salmi canapé and kabocha. The ramen was tasteless, 2 pieces of pork, packaged noodles-very poor in quality, no aroma, no taste. Santouka is still number 1 in Toronto for ramen. There was nothing outstanding with respect to the taste, quality, presentation or preparation.
Carbonara udon came with a poached egg. Service was quick and polite.
There is really nothing to say much about this place.
