“Wanted to like it...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

The gabardine is pretty close to where we live so we really wanted to like this place and the menu looked great. First off our welcome to the restaurant was very cool. The service for the rest of the evening didn't get any friendlier. Okay, it was downright frosty. My fried cheese salad was a letdown but my husband's rabbit rillettes was very good. But then came his fried chicken on a waffle. What is that strange flavor? It's like they added ground incense. I heard a couple of girls beside us remark on the same weird taste. The Manhattan chowder was good but it will leave you hungry. Overall – not worth the price.

“Neighbourhood Restaurant in the Heart of Downtown!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

Wonderful food, friendly staff, neighbourhood feel in the heart of Bay Street, the Gabardine is absolutely one of my favourite restaurants in Toronto!

“Try the Mac Pie”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

Being from the Caribbean, I'm always interested to try new versions of macaroni and cheese. though it is often said to be a comfort food, its nearly a staple at any major/minor occasion here on the islands. So i was surprised to see such an upscale restaurant offering such a dish. However my expectations were exceeded at the one i had at the Gabardine. I could sure do with one on this rainy day here in Antigua.

“Quaint little place with great detail on food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

Had special of the day, pan seared bass with sour cream mash & red wine braised cabbage. Yum. Portions on smaller side, just enough for me. Full house on an early Wednesday night. Skipped dessert but menu seemed promising!

“Gabardine....A Perfect Fit!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

I finally had the pleasure of eating at The Gabardine. Not exactly in the entertainment district, but most definitely worth finding. It is easily found and accessible right downtown. Within walking distance from Trump, Sheraton and Hilton. An easy walk to the subway. Unassuming from the outside, inside it is country casual....with flare! Reservations recommended. This place can get busy. There is a great little holding bar in the front of the house - lighting is subdued, but not dark. Staff is friendly and efficient and ......extremely knowledgeable about the menu without attitude. The food is unintimidating and startlingly well presented and prepared. We had smoked trout to start and the salted cod fritters. Both lovely...and the harbinger that what was to come would be wonderful. I had the Fish Taco's.....oh boy were they yummy. Perfect pickerel.....with a little hot sauce one of the tastiest fish tacos I have had the pleasure of eating. My partner had a perfectly cooked steak (rare)...with most excellent fries. Simple food with a flare. We could not resist trying their Korean Chicken Wings.....omg...they were good. Crispy, nice Asian flare with a little kick...not your typical pub wings to be sure. A real treat. One of our guests had their version of Mac and cheese.....apparently it was an 'oralgasam'....our friends word. Simple food done with panache is how I would describe this chef. He is adept and talented. Bravo. As noted the staff is great. Wine list is varied and our server steered us to a lovely French red. It is obvious that the staff knows their stuff and is well suited to what they are doing. Price point is reasonable for this level of quality. Management is hands on and it shows. Service is attentive without being overbearing. It was one of the nicest evenings at a restaurant we have enjoyed in awhile. Thank you Gabardine!
