“Very good for pastry, a sandwich, or a quiche”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

This is a great place for a light lunch or a coffee and a piece of pastry. Pastries are the specialty of the house, and wonderful cakes are available for take-out. The space is bright and cheerful, and the music is unobtrusive. This is definitely a feel-good place.

“A great place to stay for brunch or a café/pastry”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

When you enter at La Cigogne, you get possessed right away by a French pastries spirit that opens his arms of gourmandise temptations. If you are on a diet, don't go there !
Two big fridges display an amazing variety of pastries, fruit tart, éclairs, baba au rhum, marzipan cakes, tiramisu, you name it..the selection is impressive.
Should I add, their sandwiches are to die for, home made in the French tradition with fresh crisp baguette or croissant.
Get your freshly brewed coffee with one of the pastries or sandwiches and you will spend a real good time. The eating room is not very big but it has a good intimate atmosphere.
Don't leave without buying a piece of Nougat de Montélimar or a little box of chocolate truffles, just to make this sweet pleasure experience last a bit longer on your way home..
Don't miss this great pastry shop next time you are in Mt Pleasant area !

“A good option for a relaxed snack”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

Think of an inspired bakery with a second revenue stream from tea and coffee and a few tables squeezed in along the front window. Unclear whether there is table service. It will never be a classy dining experience, but some of their baked goods are outstanding, and the prices more reasonable than Rahier's. A great place i'm happy to recommend.

“Nice little french find”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

They have the best dessert named "prince noir" TO DIE FOR!! They are great when they have the 2 for 1 sale on products as the prices are cheaper than frozen desserts and breads. At full price they are a decent deal still as they only use great products to make their cakes..etc. Lunch menu is a little bland...they need more on it or to switch it up once and a while.

“You must have the Tarte Flambe!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

On Saturdays and Sundays between 12-3p only, this little bakery serves an Alsacian "pizza" called a Tarte Flambe. My husband and I recently made a special trip to have one (we moved out of Toronto over 4 years ago).

The super thin crust is topped with bacon, onion and cream cheese. I know that it doesn't sound "typical", but it is awesome! It's crunchy, creamy, smokey and all in all just delicious! We enjoyed it with a coffee/tea and some of their outstanding pistachio cookies!

Sometimes it's a little tough to get a seat and the prices are a tad steep, but it's memorable and delicious, so we see the value!

Also, worth mentioning that you should stop into Cumbrea's Butcher next door, they have beautiful meats and items to go. Definitely one of the best butchers in Canada! Also check out Hollywood Gelato next door to Cumbrae's. This area of Bayview offers a great little walk for foodies!
