Stayed here for a function on October 27, 2012. We checked in at 3 pm and were greeted by welcoming staff. John brought up our bags and when we got to our room, I checked out the hotel soaps and noted that it was now the Ritz Carlton brand instead of the Bulgari White Tea, which they had last year. I heard they were also using Clarins in the Club level suites. When I said I was disappointed with the change, he said he would see about sending up some different soaps. We went off to our meeting (Salon A, beautiful room and lovely hot drink set up), and when we came back to the room, the new soaps were in our bathroom. We had drinks at DEQ, and I had the Heaven's Halo for $18 - gin, elderflower liqueur, chartreuse and champagne foam with a twist of lemon - beautiful cocktail. The bruschetta was delicious.
Our room was 6th floor, great view of CN Tower, Metro Convention Centre, CBC. Queen beds were very comfy, and there were strange bong-like lamps that we discovered later had a glow-in-the dark feel for mood lighting.
Cocktails upstairs before dinner was either beer, champagne or prosecco with cranberry and raspberry. Servers were attentive and polite, wearing their black gloves. Dinner was amazing- lobster bisque with shrimp ravioli, lamb shanks with sweet potatoes and kale, and dessert was a tarte au citron served with strawberry-basil ice cream. Bread basket was delicious as well. At the end of the night, turn down service with chocolates and the bathroom replenished and tidied up made us feel this was truly five-star.
I titled this "a foretaste of Heaven" because the staff were so welcoming, polite and interactive that I felt like a long-lost family member, because they were sincerely interested in our experience. When we checked out, the maid said "Thank you for staying at the Ritz Carlton!"
Went to check out the pool and spa which were very clean and well-kept. Breakfast the next day was a buffet (approx 40.00) and delicious custom omelettes, French breads, sausages, roast potatoes, fresh fruit, salmon, the usual suspects. Fresh squeezed orange juice. They were setting up the brunch that I think is about 80.00 and the dessert table alone had me planning a visit in the future. Exquisite pastries, macarons, cakes and there were lobster tails, clams, oysters, mussels, etc.
Valet parking is 42.00 overnight which may seem steep but it's pretty good considering parking lots are 15.00-20.00 - the valet service also puts water bottles in your car. Kevin was our valet and Guillermo is the doorman - one woman in our group was outside and he brought over a small cloak to keep her warm. We were enchanted with this gesture!
I live in Toronto but this felt like going to another world entirely. I highly recommend this hotel. Not cheap, but life is short, so enjoy!!!
The hotel is non-smoking but apparently you can ask for a terrace room which may be helpful in fight...
