The hotel smelled awful and right from the start the front desk staff was rude. He spent 10 minutes ignoring us while we tried to check in. Our room was on the second floor and it smelled like something DIED up there. Our room itself smelled like stale cigarettes, which was gross considering it was a smoke-free hotel.
The room wasn't very clean, it was dusty and I found cobwebs. The curtains were broken and wouldn't fully close (our room overlooked the main street). When one of us tried the blow-dryer it sparked. It was very noisy, people on our floor were slamming doors constantly and running around the hall. People were banging on the wall, and the front desk staff accused us of being noisy when we complained.
We were called down because they had a problem processing the credit card and the front desk staff was EXTREMELY RUDE. He blamed us and said to go to the bank or we would have to leave. Nothing was open since it was New Years eve, which should have been obvious to him but he proceeded repeat the policy.
The "free wireless internet" is a joke because it requires you to create an account on some website and give all of your personal information to them (so they can sell it to everyone and anyone who will then spam you to death).
Even after all of this, we were still determined to have a good time and went out for a few hours to celebrate New Years eve down at Liberty Grand. However, when we returned and expected to go up to our room with two visitors, the manager and the front desk staff had locked the front doors and stood there with a clipboard to check that only people who had registered entered the hotel. This might seem like a good idea if we were at summer camp... or a retirement home... or even somewhere exclusive. But I've never before paid $170 for a hotel room and not been allowed to have a guest to my room. We offered the staff $50 to make an exception but they refused and just kept repeating their "policy" over and over again like robots. When we questioned their policy, rather than answer us they just said that its their policy (in other words, they were RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL and UNCOOPERATIVE). They suggested we pay for another room at $160 and send the two visitors there, which is ridiculous. We asked to be reimbursed because after being offended and disrespected we wanted to take a cab home, but they refused that as well because "it is policy." They deactivated our room keys so that we couldn't get back in and then the robotic manager "Geoff" said he'd let two of us go get all of our stuff from the room but he disappeared for 20 minutes before he did.
In the end, we left without getting a refund. We took a cab all the way back to Thornhill (45 minutes away) at 4am and had to go get our car from the parking lot the next day (today). I have never been more disgusted and upset by a hotel. I want everyone to be warned about this place, it was absolutely AWFUL. Their "POLICY" is to offend their paying customers. I wouldn't recommend Days Inn Beaches to my enemy.
I want my money back.

Thank you for your comments on Trip Advisor. Please know that your feedback is extremely valuable to us. Feedback such as yours assists us in improving our service. With this goal in mind I have investigated this case.
Since there is no proper name, I am not able to comment on a particular incident, I suggest you call me at your convenience to discuss specifics. However, I like to offer my response to some of your comments in general:
1. Hotel smell awful: No such smell found? If you found that the hotel smelled awful, why didn’t you cancel your reservation?
2.Rude front Desk Clerk: We have well trained front desk staff that will assist our customers with their accommodation needs. If a complaint is made against a particular staff member, we will investigate and corrective measures will be taken accordingly.
3.Room itself smelled like stale cigarettes: If you were given a room that was not properly cleaned or something is not working properly, you may request a room change and our staff would be happy to assist. You did not inform Front Desk of smell of stale cigarette or curtain problem in your room, if you had notified Front Desk we would have change your room to your satisfaction.
4.Our hotel require a valid credit card to check-in
5.We provide wireless internet access free of charge in every room. A pass code is available at front desk for this service. NO PERSONAL DETAILS REQUIRED TO LOG-IN. A 24hr customer service is available by calling a toll free number for any assistance.
6.According to our hotel policy for New Years Eve, MAXIMUM 2 PEOPLE ALLOWED IN A ROOM ON NEW YEAR’S EVE. NO VISITORS ALLOWED AFTER 9PM, REGISTERED GUESTS ONLY. We go by the guests’ registry and allowed in accordingly after midnight. This policy is clearly mentioned on our website also two signs in bold letters at front desk for customers to see at CHECK-IN. We do not entertain people who violate these policies. As you stated that you offered $50 to staff to make an exception, they did not. And yes they keep stating to you that ONLY 2 REGISTERED GUESTS IN A ROOM ON NEW YEAR’S EVE. Because your visitors were not registered guests of the hotel, we suggested that you could rent another room if you wanted them to stay, but you declined.
7.Room rates are subject to change according to market situation. Rates are also high during special events, and New Year’s Eve is one of them.
8.It was your choice to check-out.
